What to expect

Zao Snow Corridor: A Snow Country Spectacle Limited to April Only open for a short period in April each year, the “Zao Snow Corridor” is a stunning sight not to be missed when visiting Tohoku in the spring. The huge snow walls, up to about 9 meters high on both sides of the road, are even more spectacular against the blue sky, as if you are in a snow canyon. The limited scenery that can only be seen with the changing seasons makes this journey particularly precious.

Funaokajoshi Park & Hitome Senbonzakura: A Spring View Interweaving Snow Mountains and Cherry Blossoms Funaokajoshi Park is one of the Tohoku region’s most famous cherry blossom viewing spots, with over 1,300 cherry trees planted in the park. From the observation deck on the top of the mountain, you can overlook the endless sea of cherry trees along the Shiroishi River, with the Zao mountain range still covered with snow in the distance, creating a breathtaking landscape with rich layers. The “Hitome Senbonzakura” on the Shiroishi River embankment creates a distinct seasonal spring scene with the snow-capped mountains in the distance and the delicate pink cherry blossoms in the foreground. During the cherry blossom season, many bustling stalls gather on both sides of the riverbank, selling a variety of Japanese street snacks and desserts. You can stroll under the cherry trees, enjoy freshly made delicacies, and admire the petals falling in the wind, experiencing Japan’s unique spring “Hanami” festival full of life, and feel the local people’s joy in welcoming spring.

Zao no Oyado Shunjuan Sans亭: Enjoy a Luxurious Japanese Kaiseki Meal Enjoy lunch at the popular hot spring inn “Shunjuan Sans亭” in the Zao Onsen area! A Japanese kaiseki cuisine carefully crafted with seasonal ingredients. From local Zao vegetables, seafood, and meats to exquisite plating, each dish showcases the craftsman’s attention to detail.

Review for: Cherry Blossom Day Tour

My experience visiting the Zao Snow Wall this time was truly special. It's only open for 4 days a year, and according to our guide, the snow wall gets shorter and melts faster each year. In a few more years, it might not be visible anymore.

Review for: Cherry Blossom Day Tour

This was my first time booking a tour while traveling alone, and my worries were unfounded as I was treated very well. The Japanese guide, who came as a Korean-speaking guide, seemed quite introverted by nature, but despite that, they took good care of me, a solo traveler, and even kept me company. Since I knew a little Japanese, it was also nice to be able to communicate frequently with the female Chinese guide. I'm very glad I was able to enjoy a tour that would have been difficult to do alone!

Review for: Cherry Blossom Day Tour

The Hitome Senbonzakura (Cherry Trees at a Glance) truly lives up to its name. Unfortunately, due to strong winds two days prior, a large portion of the cherry blossoms had already fallen when I visited. Nevertheless, it was still incredibly beautiful.

Our guide was incredibly kind and wonderful. I was touched by how they took care of each and every member of our group. They were fluent in Korean and knew many places near our destinations, so they were a great help throughout the trip. I highly recommend them to others!

The group meal was arranged at a restaurant in a hot spring inn, and it was both plentiful and high-quality. The two tour guides were polite and fluent in multiple languages. Highly recommended.
