Abutting the remarkable Toyama Bay, Takaoka boasts a diverse history spanning over 350 years. Known as the "Kitchen of Kanazawa," it was a hub for food production, metalworking, and pottery. Once the second city of the Kaga Domain, Takaoka received considerable wealth, largely invested in the construction of magnificent temples. Two of these temples, Zuiryuji and Shokoji, still stand as National Treasures. I really enjoyed the evening tour of Malacca. Jonker Street is vibrant, the food is delicious, and the ride in a brightly lit trishaw is a lot of fun. The guide was friendly. Highly recommended!
Great tour! The Great Buddha was bigger than I expected and the guide knew all the history. The metalworking experience was hands-on and I took home a little souvenir. Small group, no rush, great lunch recommendation too.
Seeing the Takaoka Great Buddha up close was a highlight. It's one of the big three in Japan and the bronze detail is gorgeous. Our guide explained the casting history, and the metalworking part tied in nicely. Easy day trip from Kanazawa, and the group was small.
Honestly one of our favorite day trips in Japan. The Great Buddha in Takaoka is stunning, and then we got to try our hand at metalworking, which my husband loved. Pickup was on time and the guide was super friendly.
The coastline of Toyama Bay is amazing for photos! Amarashi Coast has a very therapeutic feel, and the tour guide even recommended some local snacks nearby. The whole trip was very relaxing and perfect for travelers looking to avoid the crowds.
The scenery at Amaharashi Coast is very beautiful, but it was a bit foggy when we went. It was a pity we couldn't see the Tateyama Mountain Range. The tour guide was very thoughtful and gave us many backup attractions. Overall, we were still satisfied.
Fushiki Station was a cute little stop, very quiet and photogenic with that old-school Japanese countryside feel. Would have liked more time there honestly, but the overall tour was well arranged and the guide spoke clear English.
The Takaoka Great Buddha is so breathtaking, and the expression of the bronze Buddha statue is very gentle. The tour guide gave a very detailed explanation and even took us to do a metalcraft experience where we made a small souvenir ourselves, which was very meaningful. Setting off from Kanazawa is very convenient with no need for transfers, incredible value!
I loved the Great Buddha of Takaoka. The guide explained the history of the bronze very well, and the metalworking workshop was a unique experience. Everything was very well organized from Kanazawa, I highly recommend it.
Great Buddha was impressive and the metalworking session was fun, although the workshop part felt a bit short. Transport from Kanazawa was comfortable. Good value overall for a half-day-plus trip.
