FantasticStayed with kids
We had a wonderful stay at Mount Royal Hotel in Banff. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of downtown—with shopping, restaurants, and cafés literally on your doorstep, making it easy to explore the town on foot.
The staff were always warm, welcoming, and helpful. I especially appreciated the complimentary daily tea service on the second floor, which was a lovely touch. The on-site restaurant is very convenient for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, although it is more mid-priced than budget-friendly.
Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the mountain views were beautiful. We didn't get a chance to use the rooftop hot tub, but it's a fantastic amenity and I'm sure the views from there are spectacular.
A huge bonus is the free parking, which is a great perk in downtown Banff. Another convenience is that Discover Banff Tours picks guests up directly from the hotel, making it an excellent base for sightseeing. The Lake Minnewanka Scenic Loop is only about a 9-minute drive from the hotel, making it easy to visit one of Banff's most scenic areas.
Overall, I highly recommend Mount Royal Hotel for its outstanding location, friendly staff, convenience, and excellent value. I would happily stay here again.

GreatStayed with family · For friends and family
Room was clean. It was small but nice (it’s in the older part of the building). Our main issue was parking. The hotel was completely booked and they do not have enough parking spaces for each room/guest. We had to keep driving around, parked away from the hotel and eventually was able to move our car in a parking lot the hotel uses. This is very inconvenient, especially after a long day of flights and 2 hours drive to get there. The hotel restaurant Brazen was very good.

Very clean and comfy room with windows we could open. Very nice coffee/tea/cocoa service in the mornings! Nice bathroom amenities. Soap was wonderful for the sink and shower! Very very central there in Banff where we were able to walk everywhere! Lovely walks along the Bow River nearby! Didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub but nice area on the roof!

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! This is in the HEART of Banff. You cannot beat the location. The hotel is VERY old (1908), but redone in 2018. Room #456 was waaayy at the other end of the hotel, where you have to take 3 random stairs down (yes, it's on the 4th fl) + multi turns, but that did not bother us. It would someone with mobility issues though. It was an end unit with a view of the rooftop (yes...the actual roof, facing other windows), but that did not bother us either, as we were literally sleeping & showering in the room. Plus only stayed 1 night. The bed was über comfortable. The shower had good water pressure and hot water...all bonuses for a super old building. Tiny tiny room, but was perfect for the 1 night stay. Brazen (restaurant on main level of hotel) was delicious & super convenient being on the first floor. We got a 15% coupon when we checked in...unfortunately forgot to use it. But worth what we paid. Parking was a bit dicey...we had to park across the alleyway in a dirt parking lot, but it was only $10. We seemed to get last spot. Not ideal for larger vehicles (big SUVs or trucks). Overall though...I rate it a 4.7 if I could. Only because the few things we did not know (room way at back of hotel with 4 turns, 3 stairs to access and the parking). It would have been nice to know BEFORE booking. Felt like we got a few 'surprises' that weren't necessarily welcome ones. But overall...comfortable, super polite & helpful staff, excellent location and CLEAN!!!
