Clean room, friendly staff, access to a nice coffee shop, access to a lovely rooftop (no bar up there but we were able to bring drinks and food). Good subway access. We stayed six nights and had a really great experience. Great vibes here

We had such a fantastic stay at HGU. We stayed in a king standard room. The bed was super comfortable and huge. Room was very clean. Great amenities in the room too. I’ve seen people complain about things such as lack of natural light (well, you’re in midtown manhattan, duh!), noise from outside or A/C not working but we didn’t experience any of this. The hotel staff were very helpful whenever we dealt with them - which wasn’t much as we had no issues to raise :) It is close to lots of the main attractions but not anywhere near as busy as Times Square or theatre district hotel locations, where I have stayed previously and it becomes a hassle when it’s so busy outside your hotel. HGUs location really was one of the best things about our trip and it allowed us to head back to the hotel for a quick rest in the afternoon. There is a subway station at the end of the street, you don’t even have to cross the street to get to one of the entrances! There is a nice coffee shop on the bottom floor which is convenient for grabbing something before heading out for the day. The rooftop was open as it was nice weather, where you get a great view of the Empire State Building. Also we booked early, choosing to pay on arrival, and we got a great deal I thought. Overall, the best compliment I can give is the next time we come to New York we will definitely be looking to stay here again!

I would recommend extending the rooftop hours. Perhaps a rooftop bar would be cool.

Clean rooms, quick check-in process, and gym next door is nice. The lobby and cafe left no room for waiting in the morning.

Solo stay

Hotel jacked up its deposit hold from $100 to $200 plus destination fee, without updating this information anywhere online. Not only are hotels are notorious for such practice of omission, it is also in violation of NYC law. Upon checking in, I politely brought this to the attention of front desk staff, showing the only information from 2021 indicating the $100 hold. They refused to honor that, and denied to check me in.

Fantastic

Solo stay

Stayed here during my NYC trip and honestly had such a great experience. The hotel was clean, stylish, and actually felt calm after the chaos of the city outside. Staff was super kind and accommodating, the room was comfortable, and the location made getting around insanely easy. The vibe felt modern and cozy at the same time, which made coming back at night feel like a reset button after long days in the city. Would absolutely stay here again and definitely recommend it to anyone visiting NYC!
