Chinatown Food Tasting & Walking Tour

4.8 5 reviews | 100+ Booked
Join an intimate guided tour around Singapore's Chinatown area and discover both the culture and cuisine on this side of the city! Meet up with your guide along South Bridge Road and start your walking tour around the Chinatown Complex, beginning with a visit to the wet market. Here, you can observe the daily lives of the market goers and the vendors as they buy, sell, and banter on costs until they reach a compromise. Once you've made your way through the stalls, your tour will continue to the complex's hawker center, where you'll sample an array of local dishes like chicken rice, carrot cake, and Singaporean dessert - all of which are just a simple introduction to the vast and distinctive cuisine of the country. After your meal, you'll be taken to traditional shophouses where you can buy trinkets and souvenirs to take home, before returning your starting point to continue the rest of your day as you please.

very impressed with what Sean and the team is doing for the rising food waste issue in Singapore! The tour is very informative and intriguing. Such knowledge and experience is worth the visit! Furthermore, Sean and team did a great job guiding the tour without a dull moment. highly recommend for family and groups to visit the BSF Farm tour by IFT !

Insect farm is located near NTU, and it’s the only tour I’ve been on where they started with “please feel free to touch anything here”. Not as hot as you might imagine as they have some fans there. Definitely very fun and memorable to be able to grab into a pile of larvae crawling around, or be able to pluck a black soldier fly with your own fingers. Tour was quite informative and was quite pleased to hear how the company is tackling with food waste (one of Singapore’s biggest issues) while ensuring every byproduct can be channelled to other functions instead of being thrown away. Free bag of fertiliser (from processed insect poop) and dried larvae (for fish) was good too, excited to try it out.

Highly informative and engaging tour, it's like an inside info storytelling session, except these are real. It doesn't feel like 3h Think you know the origins of our Bak Kut Teh & Singapore breakfast? Come listen to Patrick's version & decide the perspective you want to take. Highly recommended! Gonna check out Patrick's other tours on Perspective, subsidiary of 8th wave. I really like that 30% of the tour fees goes to beneficiaries that goes to supporting people who need a little support from the more fortunate ones in Singapore.

A three hour foodie walking tour in Chinatown area with food samplings along with a running commentary on the history of hawker food culture. An illuminating and well researched introduction to little known hawker fare and taste bud tickling experience which is high recommended for Singaporeans and foreigners alike. Acquired a better understanding of the Chinese immigrants daily diet in the early days of Singapore.

It was an amazing tour with Patrick as our guide, leading us around some of the familiar parts of Singapore, but fascinating us with so many interesting stories of our country's history that we were unaware of prior to the tour, and most importantly, how they relate to the foods & drinks that we sampled along the way. The tour was well planned and its flow was perfect. This tour is arguably one of the best we have attended out of many similar tours we have joined locally and overseas. Highly recommended, especially if you have a soft spot for local coffees and teas. We absolutely enjoyed ourselves from the start of the tour till the end.

Angel is a natural, leading us through some of the highlights of early Singapore history, including details of the Sultan who sold off the inheritance of his children to fund his lavish lifestyle. She regaled us with stories of the origins of Lavender Street's name, Munshi Abdullah, Raffles' interpreter contribution to the language, we toured the grounds of the Sultan's palace, etc. She is a natural, lively narrator -- there was a nice balance of interesting facts, Q & A, walking and even snacking. It was drizzling, but that didn't bother us. We ended with an interesting story of the origins of the term, Mat Salleh. This is my 3rd walking tour, and so far, the best.
