Grab a brush and ink and try the art of Chinese painting! This art form will allow you to express your creativity, calm your mind, and allow you to appreciate the beauty of art and nature. Known as guó huà or native painting, traditional Chinese painting is considered one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. It uses "Shui Mo" (water and ink), which is a freestyle technique created using a brush dipped in ink and water, and onto rice paper. During this hour and a half lesson, you'll learn different brush strokes, as well as get a solid introduction to the oriental materials, tools, and the painting subject from a professional tutor. You can take your fabulous masterpiece home, serving as a great souvenir from your Hong Kong trip! This class is perfect for friends and family, and no previous experience is required.
Hong Kong is a melting pot of cultures, which is why it's no surprise that even the Russian nesting doll has made its way to the bustling metropolis. Known as 'matryoshka' in its motherland, this folk toy is a set of wooden dolls fitted inside each other in a descending order. Each doll follows a theme - may it be political, a slice of life, or even pop culture. Try your hand at traditional Russian nesting doll-making with this workshop by Aura Art. Head over their studio in Causeway Bay and be greeted by a friendly multilingual tutor. A short briefing will ensue and samples will be given as your guide throughout the class. Follow the tutor's step-by-step process for better results but feel free to have your way with your own set of dolls. Play around with colors and tools as you create a theme that personally interests you or speaks of your personality. Make sure to take home your finished set as souvenir - an interesting home decor with Russian origins, yet filled with memories of Hong Kong. Capture this intercultural experience in adorable wooden pieces when you book this workshop through Klook!
I CANT SAY ENOUGH HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS. This activity is a great juxtaposition to the busy streets of Hong Kong and is a great getaway for anyone wanting to learn a bit of culture (and practice their strokes). The staff are very friendly and the attention given to every student is just enough for them to learn without scaring them off or feeling intimidated. There’s also free iced tea!
My daughter had a fever the night before and we were catching a flight home to Singapore that afternoon so I decided to skip the painting class, much to my own disappointment so I can't really comment on the class. I received email communications from Carole right after booking on Klook and also friendly email reminders with directions on how to locate their atelier before the class so I had a very good feeling about it. I will surely purchase another session the next time I visit Hong Kong!
This was the MOST incredible experience and a huge highlight of our trip to Hong Kong! Carole is an incredibly gifted teacher and with absolute kindness managed to give our family an appreciation for Chinese Art. Her knowledge was detailed yet easy to understand and appreciate, her patience and explanation when guiding even a 'person who can't even draw a stick figure' to create a bamboo painting on rice paper was phenomenal! Cannot recommend this more highly! Our little group of 6 included three 10yr old girls who participate in art lessons at home and they thoroughly enjoyed it too! Thank you so much!
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with the Chinese painting class! I's a perfect activity to do in Hong Kong in the summer. The instructor gave us very clear and interest information about Chinese painting and how it is different from Western style painting. If you ever thought about trying it, I'd highly recommend this class.
Very enjoyable experience. Carole the teacher was super patience n nice. Environment was clean n pleasant. Despite the 2 of us were pretty hopeless in terms of art, under her guidance, we managed to finish our first Chinese painting of bamboo. Really enjoyable experience.
Carole is an artist who quit her iBanker job to become a full time artist. I always admire people who work hard to pursuit their dream!!
Even beginner with no experience can enjoy Chinese painting. Recommended!
This was a birthday present for the mother in law, who's an artist herself. She enjoyed the workshop and the painting experience a lot, especially the small gesturing of writing out the names in Chinese and giving a stamp on the painting. The instructor was helpful and took care of the group to get back safely to the MTR (there was a protest nearby). Definitely recommend the workshop!
