About the event

The Toolbox International Creative Academy (TICA) offers emerging composers an unparalleled opportunity for an exchange of ideas with some of the world’s most highly regarded composers and performers of new music. Following the world premiere in Seoul in November 2025, the five newly composed works will receive their Hong Kong premiere in the 7th TICAFEST.

These newly commissioned works are composed for the Percussion Duo Moitié. Five composers – I Eun Park, Parker Callister, Trevor Van de Velde, Yeeun Sim, and Wen Ziyang – drew inspiration from psychological processes, natural sonorities, dramatic narratives, and other sources to re‑examine and reconceive the duo’s textural framework, thereby redefining its conceptual significance in order to articulate the inherent tensions between two individuals or even two existential states. Each composition integrates a diverse array of media alongside the percussion ensemble, including pre‑recorded audio tracks, electronically generated synthetic textures, incantation‑like choral harmonies, and other extended techniques, giving rise to a compelling discourse on contemporary percussion music.

The programme runs approximately 2 hours with an intermission.
