Toyotomi’s Legacy: A Dream to Unite Japan
- The Night Osaka Castle Becomes a Stage of Light Welcome to Osaka Castle Illuminage—Japan’s most spectacular winter light festival. This year’s theme, Toyotomi’s Legacy: A Dream to Unite Japan, transforms the majestic Osaka Castle into a dreamscape where history, fantasy, and light converge. Toyotomi Hideyoshi dreamed of uniting Japan, yet it was Tokugawa Ieyasu who brought centuries of peace. That unfinished dream now glows once more—reborn in dazzling light.
- New for 2025: The Lantern Corridor Step into the year’s most breathtaking highlight—66 glowing lanterns standing in solemn rows, representing the 66 provinces once ruled by samurai warlords. Walking this radiant path is like journeying through history itself: serene, immersive, and unforgettable. It’s more than illumination—it’s a cultural experience where light carries the weight of memory.
- Guardians of the Dream Encounter life-sized illuminated warriors—Kato Kiyomasa, Sanada Yukimura, Ishida Mitsunari, Maeda Toshiie, and more—samurai generals who shaped the fate of Toyotomi’s dream. Their armour gleams in the night, inviting you into a living story of ambition, loyalty, and legend.
- Osaka Icons Reimagined in Light From the neon glow of Dotonbori and the Tsutenkaku Tower to playful takoyaki installations and retro streetcars, Osaka’s vibrant culture is reborn in brilliant artistry. Both locals and travellers will rediscover the city they thought they knew.

The Osaka castle illuminage was extremely fun and worth the instagrammable views! We got the skip the line ticket (not needed as we ended up going at 7:30pm on a Sunday and there was no line up!) So many amazing displays and the Osaka castle in the background is just breathtaking! The venue seemed small at first but each display had so many intricate details, so we thoroughly enjoyed it! There were also lit up see-saws for all ages! Definitely recommended attraction!
It was great. I did find it odd that they were playing only English music. It's nice because I'm from the United States, however, I didn't come to Japan to listen to American music. International music is music to my ears ^__^
The castle illuminage was extremely beautiful. The 2025 theme was "Samurai and Shogun" so many of the displays showed samurai, rickshaw carts, shogun, and other sengoku-era stuff. There was also a lot of Osaka stuff on display too. I went with my wife around 8:30pm and was able to walk right in and finish before the lights turned off at 9:30pm.
Many mentioned that it is not within the Osaka Castle area so didn't expect much but it was actually really pretty. Definitely recommend going if you are planning to go Osaka Castle. We stayed there for more than 1 hour. Even though you won't be near Osaka Castle, you can still see it light up at night.
Not located at the actual castle but one of the gardens (use the address and don't just do directions for Osaka castle like I did! Granted we didn't mind walking around the castle, it's beautiful). The lights were amazing and there were a couple food carts with takoyaki, fries, churros, and karaage that were so nice to help warm up in the cold weather.
it’s so fun and so beautiful to see all the light displays around Osaka castle. it was great to get some glimpses of the castle in the background and the lights were beautiful.
strongly recommended for young couple whom wanna impress their dates…. u should visit the castle after lunch. get a afternoon tea in the mall and then go in after 530pm.
Beautiful backdrop of the castle with lights illumination below in Gardens. Highly recommend going early seeing the castle and castle grounds before heading down to Gardens for the Illuminations.
Very easy to access thanks to Klook, you receive a QR code to show at the entrance and avoid the queues. The ideal is to finish the visit of the castle and continue with the illuminations in the garden. The illuminations are very pretty. The visit will take between 30 min and 1 hour max and will give one last view of the illuminated castle.
I arrived to the venue around 5pm, there weren't many people there so I was super lucky. The illumations were super pretty and I enjoyed it a lot
