The moment I stepped onto the Naruto Whirlpools Walkway, my heart was filled with anticipation. This pathway, built beneath the piers of the Onaruto Bridge, offers a unique vantage point to overlook the world-famous Naruto Whirlpools. It transformed this trip from mere sightseeing into an intimate dialogue with the forces of nature. As I walked along the path, transparent reinforced glass lay beneath my feet, allowing me to look down and see the turbulent currents rushing below. When the tides shifted and the whirlpools gradually formed, the swirling, churning power was truly astonishing. Standing before the viewing windows, watching the immense eddies created by the topography and tidal differences, I couldn't help but marvel at the mystery and unpredictability of nature. These whirlpools were sometimes grand, sometimes intricate, constantly changing, and utterly captivating. For this visit, I specifically chose a time close to the optimal viewing period for the whirlpools. When they reached their peak intensity, the entire sea surface seemed to churn and boil, and the sound of the rushing water resonated through the bridge structure, deeply impacting me. That dual visual and auditory impact was far more memorable than any photo or video, and it made me profoundly appreciate the value of experiencing it firsthand.
I bought it before entering on the day, but I was able to use it easily by just showing the QR code of the voucher to the staff at the entrance. I recommend this because it is cheaper than buying it at the counter. I was able to see the Naruto whirlpools perfectly, and it was a fun memory!
Experience the awe-inspiring artistry of nature, with panoramic views from "Whirlpool Road." Witness the magnificent spectacle, especially during high tide, of whirlpools reaching 10-20 meters in diameter – a mysterious and grand "flower of the sea." This unforgettable natural wonder inspires profound admiration for nature's power and beauty. The experience is extremely impactful and breathtaking. People describe it as nature's masterpiece, a mystical flower blooming in the sea. Feel the power of the surging currents up close, or peer down through the glass floor from above for a thrilling and spectacular sight. Overall, it's an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime natural wonder. Experience Highlights Impact and Spectacle: Witnessing whirlpools forming and spinning before your eyes allows you to feel the immense power of the ocean, which is very different and impactful than just textbook knowledge. Mystery and Beauty: The whirlpools are likened to "sea flowers," blooming on the surface of the ocean with a mysterious and magnificent beauty. Thrill and Novelty: Looking down from 45 meters above through the glass floor of "Whirlpool Road" with swirling whirlpools beneath your feet creates a thrilling sensation of being drawn in. Unique Perspective: Seeing the whirlpools from the bridge, the boat, and various other vantage points provides uniquely different experiences. The combination of natural wonders and the magnificent bridge architecture creates a truly unique experience. Whirlpool Road (Aerial View) Experience: Looking down from a height of approximately 45 meters provides expansive views, encompassing the entire strait and bridge. Reinforced glass viewing windows allow you to directly feel the power of the whirlpools beneath your feet in a safe and exhilarating way. Advantages: Witness the entire life cycle of a whirlpool, from its formation to its dissipation. Recommendations: It's windy in winter, so be sure to dress warmly. There is construction currently being done on the exterior. Scaffolding is set up, which impacts the view somewhat. The majority of the view is unaffected, however. There are a lot of visitors during the Japanese New Year holidays, so it's best not to drive to the parking lot. Spaces are limited, and it gets crowded later in the day, causing traffic jams. It's best to park in the art museum parking lot and take the art museum shuttle bus to the museum. After visiting the museum, go up to Whirlpool Road. Check the high tide times before entering to have a better chance of seeing larger whirlpools. I took the 97 Naruto Park Line bus from JR Naruto Station for a fare of 390 yen. The return trip on the same bus line costs 390 yen. If you are traveling independently, note that the bus runs approximately once an hour. When returning to JR Naruto Station and heading towards Tokushima City or Takamatsu City (you need to transfer at JR Iketani Station and use the overpass to reach the other platform for Takamatsu City), be aware that JR Naruto Station has infrequent train services. Check the timetable in advance to avoid long waits.
Must see! Book tickets from Klook can receive a 20% discount. Make sure about the tidal time before you go.
This is a place that effectively utilizes the space under the highway bridge. It's cheap and well worth a visit. The parking lot gets crowded so I recommend going early, but depending on the time of day you won't be able to see the whirlpools so check online beforehand.
Easy to use, saves time queuing to buy tickets, and the staff are all friendly with scanning, so there are no language problems! I even received a postcard of the Naruto Bridge as a gift at the EDDY Memorial Hall, which is very memorable!
Convenience of booking with Klook: Although you can buy tickets directly on-site, using Klook to scan the QR code is faster and eliminates communication barriers. Also, make sure to go during high tide for a chance to see the whirlpools rise and fall!
This activity is convenient and cheap to purchase in advance from Klook, it is worth a look. In addition, it was very windy and a bit cold when I entered the venue last week, so remember to bring a hood or windbreaker!
There is no need to exchange tickets. The QR code itself is the ticket. It is very convenient. Walking under the bridge is very special. I personally feel that I can observe the impact of the eddy current better than on the boat.
Choose to purchase electronic tickets on Klook first to speed up the ticket purchase process. You can easily enter the venue on the designated date. It is convenient and fast. It is highly recommended.
