Reviews
Arrive at the station at least 20 minutes early to exchange your voucher for a ticket. It's quick and convenient. The outbound trip was a bit noisy due to a tour group, but the weather was great that day, making the entire journey comfortable and scenic. It's a great option if you don't want to drive.
It's a beautiful journey, and it's the perfect start to a self-driving tour in New Zealand. You can see a variety of natural landforms. The only drawback is that there are a lot of people on the bus during the peak season.
I was wondering whether to take the train or the bus to Arthur's Pass, but I was right to take the train. There were cows and sheep grazing along the tracks. And the scenery was magnificent. The train slowed down at the viewpoints. The observation car had no windows, so you could take good photos. I'm glad I took the tourist train.
we only took the train from Christchurch to Arthur's Pass. beautiful scenery during the train ride. a must do in NZ!
This was a very good train ride to arthurs pass. we did have a long time at the pass, which could have been less. My only critisim is for the amount we paid we could have got a cup of coffee or muffin thrown in!!
The ticketing speed is fast and good. There is no problem in exchanging the voucher on the day of the ride. I recommend everyone to use it.
I'd like to select my seats directly when placing the order.
We were travelling in winter but there is hardly any snow, makes the experience a little underwhelming. Arthur’s pass could be reached via car much more quicker and be combined with other places of interest. the train was clean and comfortable but this train experience is not overwhelming for the price that you have to pay.
Highly recommended. One of the best experiences that I had during my honeymoon in New Zealand.
Take your own food! Despite a lovely-sounding artisan menu, much of it wasn't available and what there was was the standard of average airline or petrol station food. Definitely not worth it. The coffee was ok though. We went to Arthur's Pass and back in one day. I enjoyed the trip out, but was bored on the way back. If I went again, I'd do a one way trip and probably in winter, as the scenery would be spectacular then.
