the place is convenient to go by ourselves. I spent 4.5 hr there. The gold mine tour can choose one session out of three options there and cost 40min. The self guided mine tour, gold pour tour, and sweet making session are most interesting and funny to join. The NPCs there are so professional and nice, good to chat with them. Parade is also good to see and photo with. One disappointed thing is that lack of food choice and good place to eat main dish.
amazed by the details and the place was really beautiful. it was convenient to purchase tickets at klook. However, at the time of activity the queue was long as walkins and prepaid customers were on the same line. Better be early. If you are coming from Melbourne, travel time is about 2 hours (train + bus) so plan ahead.
Love the atmosphere there! The Mine Tour is very interesting too, but the group size in a session might be a tad bit big (obstructed view) to see the things when the guide is talking about it. Gold panning is a great new experience for me although it's quite energy consuming but fun! There are some performances happening in the center too! I might have missed a lot of it but I saw the explosives one and it was so funny and entertaining lol. Highly recommended for a complete different environment feel!
My day tour to Sovereign Hill turned out really well. I was the only non-Chinese speaker in the group, but everyone was so accommodating and welcoming. Billow, our guide, was extremely helpful even before the trip. He asked me to sit in the passenger seat so he could share background information and tips in English just for me. He also accompanied me to the ticket counters to make sure I didn’t get left out or lost — he really makes a great friend. The mansion was stunning, and visiting one has been a long-time dream of mine. Sovereign Hill was quite busy since we went on a weekend, but it was still amazing to see the gold panning and watch a gold bar being made.
hunting for gold? check. love the old frontier? check. enjoying history? check. if all that fills your checklist, then this is recommended. one caveat, you need at least a full day or two to experience the history of gold mining in wild west of Victoria.
Sovereign Hill is about 2h outside Melbourne, but the trip there was super easy. Took the train to Ballarat (1.5h) and then bus 21 for about 15 mins (the bus comes every 20mins). Redeeming the ticket was very straight forward and we added the Devonshire tea to our package. The park is quite extensive, we spent almost 3h in total. Lots of buildings to visit and some scheduled activities you can participate in. It was very interesting to learn more about life during that period and the Devonshire tea was very tasty!
redeeming the voucher was entirely smooth and the Klook price is cheaper than the price on the venue. Had fun attending the different demonstrations and activities on site. Suggesting to attend the Orientation before going around, get the daily activity schedule and take a picture of the activities in the theatre. We came in past 10 am and left just before 5pm. a whole say full of activities. The people in custumes are so in character and amusing. The sausage roll and beef pie from Hope Bakery was delicious. My fave demonstrations were the Gold Pouring, Self guided Gold Mine tour, Confectionary and Magic Show in the theatre. Even bought an eco bag souvenir from Ballarat Times.
a very impressive and well laid out replica of a gold mine town in the 1800s. we had fun exploring the town, be prepared for a lot of walking up and down hills and mines to really enjoy the park, this is a one of a kind experience and highly recommended especially for us Asian tourists.
