Trains to & from Osaka

Regular train

Getting around Osaka is convenient with the city's extensive train system. The Osaka Loop Line is a great option as it circles the city and stops at major points of interest like Osaka Castle and Universal Studios Japan. You can also use other lines like the Midosuji Line, one of Osaka's main subway lines, which connects key areas like Namba, Umeda, and Shin-Osaka. Shinkansen train

To travel around Osaka using the Shinkansen, you have two main options. The Tokaido Shinkansen connects Osaka to major cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nagoya. On the other hand, the Sanyo Shinkansen provides high-speed rail service from Osaka to destinations in western Japan such as Okayama and Fukuoka.

Highway bus

Getting around Osaka by highway bus is another convenient and cost-effective option for traveling within the city and to nearby destinations. Highway buses in Osaka connect various locations both within the city and to other cities in Japan, such as Kyoto, Kobe, and even Tokyo.

Flight

Flying to Osaka takes about 1 hour, but when you add in check-ins, security, and transfers, it can take longer than the fast Shinkansen train. Flights can cost more but might be good for people with busy schedules or special deals.

Five important stops along the Midosuji subway line go from the north to the south: Shin-Osaka, Kita, Central Osaka (Honmachi), Minami, and Tennoji. Starting from Osaka or Umeda Station, catch the Midosuji line heading to Namba Station for an adventure-filled ride. When you arrive at Namba Station, just head north towards Shinsaibashi. As you walk, you'll come across the Dotonbori River, which separates Shinsaibashi and Namba. The iconic Dotonbori Bridge serves as the vibrant meeting point between these two lively neighborhoods.

Kansai Airport to Shin-Osaka Station

If you're catching a flight at Kansai International Airport or heading back home, the Limited Express Haruka train is your go-to option for your journey between Shin-Osaka and Tennoji Stations and Kansai Airport.

Osaka Station to Tenma Station

To reach Tenma Station from Osaka Station, take a quick ride on the JR Osaka Loop Line—just two stops away. Once you arrive, discover the narrow alleys where you'll find countless izakayas or casual dining spots. Tenma is a food paradise where locals flock for delicious food and drinks. Osaka Station to Umeda Station

For your journey from Osaka Station to Umeda Station, head to either the Hankyu Railway Umeda Station or the Midosuji Line Umeda Station through the Midosuji Gate. If you're heading to Hankyu Umeda Station, you'll find it right at street level. To reach Midosuji Line Umeda Station, simply take the escalator down to the underground mall. Umeda is a shopper's paradise, with all kinds of shopping malls and department stores. Umeda's shopping district is the largest in Japan, surpassing even Tokyo's famous Shinjuku area. A vibrant underground shopping mall, called chikagai in Japanese, conveniently links Osaka and Umeda Stations.

Osaka Station to Osakajokoen Station

To get from Osaka Station to Osaka Castle, hop on the Osaka Loop Line train to Osakajokoen Station. Once you're there, it's just an 18-minute walk through the park to reach the castle. The Osaka Castle area is a famous historical site in the middle of the city, surrounded by tall buildings. It has moats, turrets, and walls around a big central tower, all set in a spacious park.
