Great

Overall it was a good base from which to explore Porto. In particular we liked: When we arrived there were some portuguese tarts and glasses of port. If you wanted, there was more port in the reception area. Spotlessly clean throughout. Good location - just a (steep) 10 minute walk to the river. Lots of restaurants etc nearby. We really felt we were in the middle of everything. Whilst there was no onsite receptionists or manager we always had a quick response by to any query we had. Not so good Noise! We were room 1 in the first floor. This meant we were right over the front door which people slam at all times (even though there is a notice in the door). Plus the stairs are open plan to the kitchen - reception so if anyone is talking either downstairs or on the stairs case you will hear it. Unfortunately to get to the other bedrooms, everyone goes past the room so you can hear every conversation being held. Towels were a little threadbare There is a kettle in the room but no tea/ coffee. So wasn’t quite sure what the point was ? There is a kitchen area downstairs but it’s made very clear you can’t use it. The rooms are small - but we were aware of this. However there was nowhere to put your case in the bedroom and apart from one small rail no where to unpack to. Overall though it was perfectly adequate for a short visit to Porto.

The hotel is difficult to reach from a main road and one must walk up a very steep incline to reach the hotel which is poorly marked. No reception with difficulty in obtaining the entry codes. Then we were place at the very top room which had a very tight winding stairs without a handrail and was extremely difficult to lug a suitcase up. Next, my wife fell in the middle of the room because there is no safety markings for a step down in the center of the room. Overall, this accommodation was way overpriced for the facility it provided.

The location is amazing, there was a lot to see within walking distance. The room was modern and nicely decorated but there was a lack of shelving in the bathroom (turns out the mirror is a medicine cabinet) and also, there wasn’t really a place to put luggage; I would have preferred that the single chair was replaced with a luggage rack. I was not able to get the AC working when we checked in but Maria came to the room upon check out and it seemed to be working fine then. And the toilet seat was broken which seems to be a theme in Portugal. Overall, I would stay here again. Check in/out was easy and the staff were friendly. Welcome desserts and port wine were a nice surprise!

The property makes creative use of its small space in the historic area. We enjoyed our balcony view of the city from our studio. Fresh and new inside with a Roman wall in the back. Staff is wonderful and genuinely helpful. Breakfast is good too. But do not plan to drive or park there. The road is very narrow. We left our car at a nearby parking garage. Wonderful location in the walkable historic district near the river.

We had a very comfortable stay. The historical house is very well kept and our room was clean. It is well located near the Cathedral and within walking distance of the waterfront. Marta, the host and our staff contact there, was most helpful, patient, gracious, and welcoming. She contacted us ahead of time more than once and sent us clear directions to the house from the train station via local train. We had an unexpected medical situation arise while there and she both advised us and made several calls on our behalf. The care and attention the staff gives their guests is rare. Highly recommended!
