I stayed at the InterContinental Abu Dhabi for two nights. Overall, the hotel is good, but the guest rooms are quite outdated and in need of major renovation. I have known this hotel for many years, and much of the furniture appears unchanged. The cabinets and drawers had visible scratches and wear, and the bathroom also felt old.
My check-in experience was disappointing. Although I arrived about 1.5 hours late, the room was still not ready. When I finally entered, the supervisor was present, but the room was not properly cleaned. I found hair on the drawers, dirt on the floor, missing amenities, and a TV that was not working.
The highlight of my stay was the excellent breakfast/brunch, with a wide variety of food and the great option of being served until 3:00 PM.
The pool area was acceptable, although some tiles were missing or displaced. Parking is also limited compared with the hotel's capacity.
Overall, I would rate the hotel 3/5. The property has a strong reputation and excellent potential, but management should prioritize renovating the rooms and bathrooms and improving housekeeping and maintenance to bring the hotel back to the standards expected of an InterContinental property.
