It's time to head out of the city and go on an incredible journey to what locals call the Eighth Wonder of the World: Sigiriya, or Lion's Rock Fortress. Your driver guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the heart of the island, between the towns of Dambulla and Habarana, on a massive rocky plateau 370 meters above the sea level. From the main entrance, walk to a series of charming symmetrical water gardens, including curved tanks, bathing pools, little islands with pavilions that were used as dry-season palaces, and landscaped borders. You can either spend a couple of hours here just taking in this marvelous sight, or, should you feel up to the task, begin your 1,200 step climb up to the top of the fortress. Halfway up the Sigiriya rock, an open-air spiral stairway leads to a long, sheltered gallery in the sheer rock face, with the paintings of the buxom, wasp-waisted women are popularly believed to represent either apsaras (celestial nymphs) or King Kasyapa’s concubines. At the top, take in the awesome view of the surrounding area, before you begin your descent to savor a delicious lunch with the local villagers. You'll also get to participate in some of the village's daily tasks, such as a bullock cart ride, a cooking class, and even a fishing boat ride on the lake! Once you're done, you'll pack up for the day and head back to the city, where you'll get dropped off back at your accommodation.

Sigiriya Lion's Rock Fortress Day Tour and Village Experience from Colombo
This day has been a great adventure for me and my friend. Not only did we have a roadtrip with 2 of the most accommodating tour operators in Colombo, but we were also treated with the courteous professionalism which is such a big plus for us. Shashi (guide) and Jeewaka (driver) had ensured that we will get the most out of this package. They were very meticulous especially in choosing our licensed guide for the Sigiriya and the guide Raju did not disappoint. He made sure we get the minute details of the fortresse's history, he made sure to assist us in the steep stairs as they tend to be slippery, protected us from wild monkeys and most of all, took postcard like camera snapshots for us. The next was the immersive village experience. Everything that was discussed in the village itinerary was done. Again this was a plus for us as we got to ride a bullcart, rode a small catamaran boat with friendly guides who made lotus necklaces for us. Even though they don't speak english, we can feel that they want us to feel welcome and happy. :) we got to taste native curry prepared by one of their locals which was yum but spicy :) the ride home was 1 hour earlier. Thanks to the expertise of Shashi and Jeewaka in navigating the shortcut routes for us to be able to rest more before our flight tonight. Again, thank you guys! Hope to see you again next time

Definitely worthy to pay a visit to Lion Rock Fortress, despite it took more than 3.5 hours from Colombo. The local village experience was very good as the lady was very nice to showed how she made a traditional local food. The local agent, operator Ms Shashika and our driver Mr Shantha were very helpful!
When you are in Colombo, this is one daytrip you shouldn't miss. Our driver was very pleasant and on time. We left Colombo to Sigiriya around 5:30am. When we got there, we were greeted by a tour guide who was very knowledgeable about the rock's history. He also knew shortcuts for us to pass through since the line was so long. The view from the top was amazing! certainly, it is not to miss. After the climb, we went to a traditional/old village where the locals prepared lunch for us. We didn't know this was included in our tour so we were pleasantly surprised. Since we still had time after that and before our flight, our driver took us to a spice village where we got a free massage and a tour of the garden. Overall, a highly recommended experience.
I was surprised that the cab driver reached well in advance to pick me from Taj Samudra. The scheduled start time was 6:00 am. However Laxman was there by 05:45 am waiting for me! We started the journey on time and reached Sigiriya. Through out the journey he arranged all the necessities for my comfort. I have been connected with a local guide in Sigiriya to take me to the top. He was also a nice person, who could handle English well. On our way back Laxman took me to Dambulla cave temple too. Superb experience Klook team. Thanks a lot! Many many thanks to Laxman, hope to see you again.
My guide Christopher was really knowledgeable and shared many local insights with me about the place and Sri Lanka. The only thing was that the communication between the agent and the guide could be better on the itinerary and what is included in the package. Thankfully, Christopher was flexible and accommodated. He even introduced sights and brought me to see things beyond in Kandy.
