Renowned Hong Kong pianist Ted Lo opens Freespace Jazz Fest with a cross-generational performance featuring Nelson Fung and Dean Li

Freespace Jazz Fest 2024 opens with the return of Hong Kong icon Ted Lo and a trio featuring young local artists Nelson Fung on double bass and Dean Li on drums.

Recognised as the first internationally acclaimed Chinese jazz pianist, Widely dubbed “The Godfather of Hong Kong jazz”, Lo has established himself on the world stage collaborating with stars such as Herbie Mann, Astrud Gilberto and Ron Carter. Since returning to Hong Kong in the 1990s, Lo has expanded his musical repertoire working and performing with major musicians across Hong Kong’s jazz, classical and pop circles.

Taking the stage for his sixth consecutive appearance at Freespace Jazz Fest, Lo brings together two of the best jazz musicians of the new generation – Nelson Fung and Dean Li, founding members of innovative local free-style jazz group Fountain de Chopin.

Combining their vastly different backgrounds and professional experiences, the home-grown trio promise a sophisticated pure jazz experience showcasing contemporary sounds through original compositions and rearranged classics.
