The MOST Green Fin-est Summer Eco Camp | Installation Introduction

With global warming looming large, it is time for our next generation to raise their awareness of the pressing problem and the importance of marine conservation! This summer, MOSTown in Ma On Shan is bringing the vivacious energy of the season indoors with ‘The MOST Green Fin-est Summer Eco Camp’ starring a ferociously cute marine creature who wiggles his fin in anticipation of an exciting array of experiences packed with green ideas and fun. Between 14 July and 27 August, MOSTown is joining MR.SHARK, the trending digital cutie pie from Taiwan, for the first time to put an eco-spin on everyday life through an edutainment programme with A Plastic Ocean Foundation.

MOSTown’s ‘The MOST Green Fin-est Summer Eco Camp’ is set to peg up the fun meter for summer holiday with the world’s first 3.5-metre-tall MR.SHARK inflatable installation. The imposing presence of the much-loved character adds to the adrenaline-pumping experience brought by the 7-metre-tall Marine Slide with Ball Pit, and the chilling 10-metre-long zipline flying over a shark-infected sea created, in collaboration with A Plastic Ocean Foundation, out of recycled plastic bottles to convey the message of marine conservation.

During the campaign, the mall will organize an exhibition dedicated to the local coral population with A Plastic Ocean Foundation and Coral Academy., with a view to promoting marine conservation. 10 local species are curated in the showcase at L3 Activity Zone, alongside the embryos of staghorn coral and the one-week-old coral skeleton – ready to be observed under a microscope. Meanwhile, H．COINS members are welcome in the exclusive guided tour* where expert guides instil the notion of marine conservation into participants as they walk them through the exhibits, their features, habitat, and survival strategies. Also, there is a specially designed STEM DIY workshop, where you can personally create a kinetic boat - The Sea Cleaner.

Beware of the shark! MOSTown taps kids and kidults to brave the marine world with MR.SHARK and show off their agility, as the 3.5-metre-tall MR.SHARK welcomes challengers on top of the 7-metre-tall installation in blue and yellow stripes, ushering them in a ride down the 1.8-metre-tall marine slide into the ball pit where the inflatable MR.SHARK swims. Staghorn Coral Embryos Exhibited First-time in Hong Kong mall with 10 Local Coral Skeletons

Despite the sub-optimal environmental conditions, Hong Kong waters has more coral species than that of the Caribbean Sea, making local corals in the territories a particularly precious presence. Coral reefs have an important role in our marine ecosystem. Curious about it? Coral Academy, the only coral restoration research team in Hong Kong using sexual coral propagation techniques to restore degraded coral communities, answers your call this summer with a family-friendly exhibition featuring staghorn coral embryos grown by the team, coral skeletons, and video showcasing the team’s effort in local coral restoration and education outreach, the Hong Kong first-of-its-kind organised in a shopping mall.

The ‘Corals: HK’s MOST Precious Marine Treasure’ exhibition showcases a carefully curated collection of specimens, including the skeletons of 10 precious hard corals in Hong Kong waters – five of them are extremely precious, collected over 20 years ago from Hong Kong waters, and identified by local and international coral taxonomists. Among the exhibits are the ‘MOST typical flagship: Brain coral (Platygyra)’, the ‘MOST stony-like: Pore coral (Porites), the ‘MOST transmutable: Pineapple coral (Favites)’, the ‘MOST peony-like: Cactus coral (Pavona), the ‘MOST curly: Bowl coral (Duncanopsammia) and more. Visitors will enjoy the rare opportunity of observing staghorn coral embryos and one-week-old coral skeletons under microscope, the first time in a shopping mall of Hong Kong.

What’s more, the exhibition also features rare footage of the spectacular spawning corals in Hong Kong waters, offering an immersive viewing experience of the underwater nebula of eggs and sperm.
