Freespace Jazz Fest 2022 Introduction
A family-friendly music festival for a long weekend of non-stop great sounds and fun events indoors and outdoors
Freespace Jazz Fest returns this October – with five days of non-stop great sounds on five stages around Freespace, the Art Park and Hong Kong’s new venue Wonderland.
At Wonderland – one of two large outdoor stages – featured artists including Eugene Pao, Joyce Cheung, Daniel Chu, Patrick Lui Jazz Orchestra present individual programmes with new and original sounds.
Headline acts in the Box will fully utilise the venue’s L-ISA (Immersive Sound Art), media server, tracking and projection technologies: Hong Kong jazz legend Ted Lo presents a tribute to great contemporary jazz pianist Chick Corea; Tsui Chin-hung and Bowen Li each bring a new conceptual concert experience to the stage; and percussionist Anna Fan curates performances with theatrical elements specially designed for young jazz audiences.
In The Room, the Experimental Lab offers an avant-garde musical experience with local musicians and new media artists collaborating and improvising live online respectively with artists from Berlin, Zurich, Montreal and Seoul.
On the second outdoor stage, the Waterfront Lawn, local and Hong Kong-based musicians including from South America and Africa present an exciting free programme of sounds from around the world showcasing the city’s multicultural makeup.
Finally, local bands will take turns playing evening shows at Lau Bak Livehouse.
The festival also includes free film screenings and an arts and crafts market on the Great Lawn, plus a variety of fun activities for parents and kids. Stay tuned for details!
