About Between Stories

Between Stories is a site-specific installation performance taking inspiration from Singapore’s street storytelling tradition, whose tales unfolded for as long as an incense stick burned. For twenty minutes, visitors gather inside CHIJMES, with light and movement pouring and shifting across walls like water, like smoke, like memory taking form. Drawing on the history of the convent’s Gate of Hope, the work reimagines a mother’s fantastical journey as she searches for reconnection. The speculative tale moves between what has been remembered and what might yet be imagined, inviting audiences to sit together, as people always have, between one story and the next.

About Clare Chong Clare Chong is a Singaporean filmmaker, video artist, and creative director whose works span film, installation, and community based art. Chong’s practice is rooted in observation and playful interactions, unraveling the overlooked rituals and surprises of everyday life. Her work questions how we perceive and construct relationships, inviting audiences to engage with images not just as stories, but a space for reflection. Beyond accolades, Chong is committed to making art accessible to all, believing that each work is a celebration of space, time, and community.
