Shirakawa-go
  • Exclusive access to the observation deck and includes a special beef dinner.
  • Picturesque Hida Takayama, stroll through the well-preserved old streets and feel the charm of the Edo period.
  • Explore Shirakawa-go, a World Heritage village, and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery surrounded by mountains.
  • Taste authentic Takayama ramen and Hida beef, and let your taste buds enjoy the feast.
  • As night falls, participate in the annual Shirakawa-go Light Up event and experience the romantic winter atmosphere. You can also choose not to participate in the observation deck activity:

What to expect

This is a journey from the warmth of the ancient streets to the light and shadows of a snowy night, allowing you to encounter the softest winter moments in the interlacing of time and seasons.

  • Stepping into Hida Takayama (please note that sightseeing time may be shortened or the Takayama attraction may be canceled due to traffic congestion) is like opening a door to the old days. Known as "Little Kyoto of Hida", the ancient streets from the Edo to Taisho periods are completely preserved. Strolling along the stone-paved roads in "Sanmachi", every frame is like a retro filter. You can casually pop into a small shop and taste local delicacies such as Takayama ramen and Hida beef; wooden crafts and street scenes exude the warmth of slow living.
  • The journey through the mountains is like being in a winter-limited movie scene. Arriving at the Shiroyama Tenshukaku Observation Deck, the sunset gradually darkens, and the dinner time on the observation deck is a bit romantic and pleasant. Standing at a high place overlooking the Shirakawa-go Ogimachi Gassho-style village, the picture is like the cover of a travel magazine - the layers of roofs exude warmth in the snow, so quiet that people just want to hold their breath.

After night falls, the climax of the trip arrives: Shirakawa-go Illumination. We will ascend to the observation deck to view the scenery before the lighting ceremony begins. After the lights are turned on, you can stay on the observation deck for a short time to continue watching the night view, but for safety and subsequent arrangements, all visitors must descend from the observation deck in advance before the time specified by the staff (the lighting event is still in progress at this time). The itinerary includes a local specialty dinner. Please be sure to read and comply with the on-site guidance and time arrangements.

  • The lights and shadows light up the Gassho-style village into a fairy tale world, and even the air seems to carry a sparkling filter. The Wada House, Myozenji Temple, the west side area... every place where the lights fall is gentle and agile. But behind the beautiful scenery, remember to retain a little "travel safety" - be extra careful about the slippery snow, snow on the eaves, and dark ditches; there are no trash cans in the village, and the buildings are flammable, so please protect this quiet village with respect.
  • If you plan to take a romantic photo of winter, be sure to wear a waterproof and cold-proof jacket, non-slip shoes with strong grip, and keep warmers, flashlights, and gloves in your pockets... These small preparations will allow you to walk slowly and gently in the sea of lights in Shirakawa-go.
The Shirakawa-go illumination tour allows you to enjoy the dreamy scenery of the Gassho-style houses illuminated in the night, experiencing the romance and tranquility of a Japanese mountain village in winter.

Takayama and Hida City are very comfortable, with many shops and restaurants. The Hida beef is also delicious. The Shirakawa-go light-up is very beautiful, and it's only offered four times a year, making it worth seeing.
