The TRA 3-day pass was just right for completing my round-island trip. I booked the tickets in advance and then activated and picked them up, and I also got the Taipei-New Taipei-Keelung 2-day pass for the MRT and buses. A very convenient and affordable pass. We used the Taiwan Pass 50% off promotion during the Mid-Autumn Festival long weekend to travel around the island with friends and hike the Lesser 100 Peaks, and we had a wonderful time. In particular, being able to use the scooter rental included in the pass made getting around Hualien very convenient. It would be even better if more cities could be added in the future.

I highly recommend this service if you need to take a train. This time, we went to Kaohsiung first, then to Alishan. For Alishan, we used the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle bus and had made a reservation in advance via the app. We had a 16-minute layover, but I'm not sure if the bus arrived early or the train was delayed. As soon as we exited the train station, a crowd of people boarded the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle bus. Our reservation was completely useless, so we ended up sitting in the very back row. The ride was quite uncomfortable, constantly winding through mountain roads. However, on the way back from Alishan, we were able to use the reservation feature, and getting on the bus early made a huge difference. We didn't have to sit in the back row, and the experience of the winding roads was much more pleasant. If you have similar travel plans, I highly recommend using this service.

Taking advantage of this buy-one-get-one-free subsidy, I went on a backpacking train trip. I planned to go to Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Kaohsiung.
