Leifeng Pagoda, also known as "Huangfei Pagoda," is located on Leifeng Peak of Sunset Hill on the south bank of West Lake. Many people's "Leifeng Pagoda complex" originates from the Legend of the White Snake. Although the old pagoda collapsed in 1924, the current one was newly built on the original foundation. It has elevators and air conditioning inside, but this does not prevent you from coming here to find traces of the White Snake.
The Leifeng Pagoda itself is a major attraction of the entire scenic area. The newly built Leifeng Pagoda is more like a museum, with a total of 5 floors from the base up. After checking the ticket, first take the elevator (of course, you can also climb the stairs next to it) to the site of the pagoda base. Here, you can see the broken base of the old pagoda surrounded by glass. It is full of change, which can also be regarded as a scene of Leifeng Pagoda. This floor also has some cultural relics unearthed from the underground palace, among which the Ashoka Pagoda is very exquisite. Going up, you come to the ground floor of the pagoda, which exhibits a large Dongyang wood carving mural "Legend of the White Snake", which is very detailed. From here, you can officially start climbing the tower. There are walking stairs and escalators inside, and you need to queue up most of the time.
Each floor of the tower displays some poems, essays, and murals, but most people climb the tower to see the scenery. The view from the height of Leifeng Pagoda is very good. You can not only see the panoramic view of West Lake, but also overlook the entire view of Jingci Temple on the opposite side. Especially at night, the lights along the West Lake outline the outline of the entire West Lake, and the scenery is intoxicating.
In addition to Leifeng Pagoda, there are also small attractions in the scenic area such as Sunset Pavilion, Miaoyin Terrace, and a release pond. Among them, there is a huge rockery stone in the release pond in front of the tower, which is covered with land turtles that have been released; the Buddha Relic Hall can see the Buddha's hair relics.
