Full disclosure, the host moved us to a different property from the Cleveland House, BUT it was an upgrade AND closer to bars and restaurants so mutually agreed upon. Property host was so nice and helpful. Would definitely book here again!

The hotel is in an excellent location, tucked away in a quiet street, yet within walking distance to the ferry, the wharf, restaurants and shopping. The Victorian house is very cute and although the room was somewhat dated, it was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. There is not much bathroom amenities, so guests should bring their own shampoo/conditioner and lotion. I loved that there was water available throughout the day. Check in was relatively quick and easy. The WIFI was quite slow. We needed to store our luggage and were told to leave it in the dining room, which was an open room and we felt a little nervous but had no choice. It was totally fine when we returned to collect it. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I would recommend it if you don’t need particularly fancy accommodation and also comfortable with narrow stairs.

Good

Solo stay

Great location. I slept well. The lady who checked me in did not seem happy, but she was responsive when I told her my television wasn't working. Super tiny room. No bedside tables or counter space in bathroom. Breakfast was supposed to be included in my rate. I made a special request for vegan breakfast items at time of booking. The lady who checked me in know nothing about this, and wasn't even clear on what vegan means, it seemed to me. She asked if cereal was okay I'm fine with cereal and soy milk or fruit and bread, so I sent an email requesting almond or soy milk. The next morning, the guy who greeted me tried to be helpful.and went to get soy milk or almond milk. I don't think he knows what they are because he brought me Almond brand coconut drink...it tasted like a pina colada, super sweetened creamer. Not something one would put cereal in. Also, the cheerios and possibly granola had honey, so I just had a banana and dry shredded wheat for breakfast. I think the gentleman was contrite and in trying to make me feel better referred to me (grandma in late 50s) as a "young lady." There are multiple signs with different wifi networks and passwords posted throughout the property. I tried 3 or 4 of them before I found the working combination. I feel they should be more accepting of diversity for breakfast. Fresh fruit, peanut butter and bread would be a good start They should provide options for eco-conscious, health-conscious,or humane-minded clientele, in my opinion.

Here is what you should know when booking a room here: 1. There are four hotels in this group and you could be put in any of them. 2. They are historic homes built in the late 1700s, I think, and therefore have old-home character and individuality—and sometimes a little peeling paint. 3. Rick, the guy who runs everything, works extremely hard to make sure you feel happy. 4. Regular queen rooms are in the basement. Deluxe queens are upstairs. My daughter and I had a deluxe king. It was nice. We had a cute street view. 5. There is parking, but it’s tight. 6. Clean room & linens. Private bathrooms. Really clean. 7. The floors were old fashioned hardwood floors, but whatever they did to them, they didn’t squeak, creak, or make noise.8. Firm mattress, nice pillows.9. Window units for A/C. The hallways were warm. You can adjust your room’s temp yourself. 10. Walkable to Bowen’s Wharf, Starbucks, etc. 11. That said, it’s a little quirky. Have that expectation and you will enjoy it. We will go back.

The staff was super helpful and hospitable. Very old home but very accommodating. WiFi was spotting in some areas. Very close to restaurants and public transit, as well as a free hop on hop off bus for the city.

The Cleveland house has a lot of character. Great antique home with updated services. Great location right off Thames St. Would definitely stay again.
