We had an unfortunate experience at Reef Haven Belize. The decaying seaweed on the shore made the resort uninhabitable. We were forced to stay one overnight only because we arrived late in the day, and the resort is a (lovely) 25 minute boat ride from San Pedro, but we promptly moved the next day to a resort without the seaweed. To be fair, the resort is probably very nice during a different time of the year, but for this time, this stay, it truly was awful. The decaying seaweed was so pungent that our gag reflexes were triggered, and we had to wear masks to walk to/from our room. We did not leave our room until it was time to transport to our replacement facility. Communication with Reef Haven proved to be challenging as we requested to have a refund activated for our lost days. Expedia came to the rescue and advocated an appropriate refund.

The staff here is extremely nice. We really enjoyed the activities and the quiet of this place. We played pickleball, painted, swam in the pools. The food was very good and for a little extra you can enjoy a lobster meal. It is far from and off the path of tourism. No noise and I slept ALOT!

The sargassum infestation made this a complete waste of money. Most people plan trips 6 months in advance, like I did. This was a complete waste of money. There were at most 5 people at the property, no one gave us the word or a gigantic discount for this trip. Many lessons learned. The biggest is that I will never use Expedia again. Back to Costco Travel. They know how to treat their customers.

This resort was a dream come true and would have been a perfect 10/10 if not for one issue at checkout. The location is a true tropical paradise. The remote setting makes it feel like you have the island to yourself, and even the 30-minute boat ride across the Caribbean adds to the sense of escape. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and accommodating throughout our stay. The food was outstanding. This is not a buffet-style resort, but there were plenty of menu options, everything was made fresh, and the dishes highlighted local and seasonal ingredients. The property is spacious, so the pool, bar, and relaxation areas never felt crowded. We also enjoyed the variety of activities, including ceviche-making and mixology classes. Despite the remote location, we felt safe exploring nearby beaches and trails. There was some seaweed, but that’s simply part of visiting this region at certain times of year, and the resort did its best to manage it. Our only disappointment involved an excursion booked through the resort. We repeatedly confirmed that the quoted price included all taxes and marine park fees, but at checkout we were told those charges were extra, increasing the cost by about 25%. The issue wasn’t the additional expense—it was the lack of transparency. Overall, the resort is beautiful, the staff are wonderful, and the experience is unforgettable. We would gladly return and still recommend it to others.
