About the event
On a freezing Christmas Eve, bitter miser Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his late business partner, Jacob Marley, followed by three spirits who guide him through his own past, present and future. Confronted with the loneliness his greed has created, Scrooge is given one last chance to change before it's too late. Matthew Warchus's joyous staging immerses audiences in the story with falling snow, candlelight, live carols and the scent of mince pies drifting through the auditorium, transforming The Old Vic into a Victorian London straight out of Dickens's imagination. Suitable for ages 8 and up, it's a heartwarming night out for the whole family.
About the organiser
Jack Thorne, the award-winning writer behind Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Adolescence, adapted Charles Dickens's 1843 novella for the stage, with Olivier Award-winning director Matthew Warchus (Matilda the Musical) at the helm. First staged at The Old Vic in 2017, the production has returned every festive season since, now marking its tenth anniversary and cementing its place as London's longest-running staging of the Dickens classic. Its success has carried it beyond London, with a Broadway transfer that won five Tony Awards, plus tours across the United States and Australia. Critics have called it 'one of the best Christmas shows you'll ever see' (The Stage).
