Yes, yes we know, 2020 has seen us all endure enough horrors and creepy orange faces to last a lifetime. But Halloween isn’t just about the scares - okay maybe it’s mostly that - it’s also a time to have some fun and do something a little different.
From underground ghost tours in Edinburgh to horror mazes in Barcelona, we’ve rounded up a superb (even if we do say so ourselves) selection of tours and experiences that are equal parts horrifying and fun! Enjoy…if you dare!

    Jack the Ripper Tour, London

Jack the Ripper is one of London’s greatest unsolved mysteries and still today experts are working to uncover the truth behind the city’s most gruesome killer. During the tour you’ll make your way through dark alleyways and passages (we suggest you bring a friend who is comfortable holding your hand in public, just saying), as you visit the actual locations featured in the villain’s infamous stories - you’ll be glad you’re on a group tour that’s for sure!

    The London Dungeons, London

Who knew a place could be this much fun (and when we say fun, we mean terrifying) and still be educational 🤷‍♀️.  A fully immersive experience, complete with 360 degree sets, full-on theatrics, and gripping storytelling, you'll be in for a thrilling night. Be warned though, this tour is not for the faint hearted - expect to be transported to eerie East London streets, plague-ravaged houses, and you’ll even bear witness to a torture chamber (we did warn you)!

Doomed, Dead, and Buried Tour, Edinburgh

People enjoying a ghost tour in Edinburgh
Just the very thought of this tour sends shivers down our spine and it probably has something to do with the fact that most of the tour is underground in the Blair Street Vaults (what’s that noise?👀). As you head into the darkness you’ll hear of infamous murderers and cursed souls, and delve into the terror of the city’s gruesome past. Prepare to get seriously spooked on this popular Edinburgh ghost tour.

    Halloween at Parque Warner, Madrid

For a Halloween experience that is a little more family friendly, Parque Warner is where it’s at. From the 3rd Oct to 2nd Nov the park will be transformed into a Halloween wonderland, with special characters and shows, and for those a little more daring, the maze of horrors. The horror mazes are the main attraction at the park and visitors can choose whether they attempt the ‘FREDDY KRUEGER: A NEW NIGHTMARE’ maze, where visitors will be protagonists of their own worst nightmare, or something a little less terrifying, such as finding out what awaits in the Looney Toons forest. Either way, Halloween is best spent at Parque Warner!

    Halloween at PortAventura Park, Barcelona

Strange creatures are taking over PortAventura this Halloween so beware! You can expect stunt shows with apprentice vampires, dance shows featuring souls from the afterlife, and you’ll find terror in Caribe Aquatic Park, where you must escape from the ghoulish pirates trying to capture you. All this and more, so what are you waiting for?

Crypts, Catacombs & Ghosts of Rome Tour, Rome

    Statue on Rome ghost tour
Above the surface Rome may be all sunshine and gelatos, but beneath the sun-baked streets you’ll find another layer to Rome’s history and we think you’ll find it a little chilling.  On this fascinating tour you’ll visit Capuchin Catacombs, which is considered to be one of the most eerie places in the city, and we’re not surprised considering the halls are decorated with the remains of 4,000 monks😱.  If that isn’t enough, you descend below the Basilica of San Clemente, where you’ll travel through the remains of 12th and 4th century basilicas, a 2nd century cult temple, and ruins dating as far back as AD 64. You’ll never see Rome in the same way again.

Cannaregio District Legends and Ghosts Night Walking Tour, Venice

As twilight turns to the dark of night, get off the tourist trail and uncover ancient legends, ghost stories, and untold mysteries as you walk through the dark alleyways of Venice. Learn about the ghosts of Cannaregio and of the creepy ghost appearances reported by the locals. The question is, will they make an appearance for you? 👻

Le Catacombes de Paris, - You guessed it, Paris

Skulls and bones in the Catacombes in Paris
Discover a darker side to the ‘City of Lights’ with a visit to the Catacombes. With hundreds of kilometres of tunnels right beneath the city of Paris, who knows what you’ll uncover? As the graveyards of Paris overflowed, the city moved the dead into these Catacombes, so prepare to feel unsettled as you witness tunnels and rooms adorned with human bones and skulls. If this place isn’t haunted we don't know what is!
If these all sound a little too daunting (we won’t judge) then you’ll be pleased to know that we have lots of other great experiences around Europe, that are guaranteed ghost and ghoul free.
    Keep (k)looking here.
