Kyushu One-Day Tour: Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine & Mount Aso (with shuttle bus) & Kurokawa Onsen/Kumamoto Castle (Chinese and English guide, departing from Fukuoka/Kumamoto)
- Check in at Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine, the most beautiful shrine in Kyushu, the prototype for the movie "Hotarubi no Mori e," and one of the must-visit shrines in this lifetime.
- Mount Aso in Kumamoto, one of the most worthwhile places to visit, is still smoking and is an active volcano where you can experience the Earth's breathing up close.
- Kusasenri, a vast grassland that is emerald green like a Windows desktop in summer, turns golden in autumn, and becomes a pure white snowfield in winter, creating a spectacular view with the smoking crater.
- Kurokawa Onsen offers a variety of unique hot springs, including cave hot springs, standing baths, barrel baths, river view hot springs, bamboo forest hot springs, and open-air giant rock hot springs.
- You can carry your luggage and leave the group at Kurokawa Onsen, which is super convenient.
What to expect
When you come to Kyushu, how can you miss the natural beauty and healing hot springs of Aso? Follow me, and let’s embark on a one-day check-in trip to experience the grandeur of nature and the healing power of Japanese-style hot springs! 📍First Stop: Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine First, head to [Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine] to welcome a beautiful day. The shrine is serene and mysterious, with giant ancient trees and moss-covered stone steps that seem to transport you through time. The light and shadow in the forest are perfect for photos! 📍Second Stop: Mount Aso Nakadake Crater Take a bus to [Mount Aso Nakadake Crater]. This is one of the world’s largest active volcanoes! Standing on the edge of the crater, watching the steaming smoke rise, and feeling the pulse of the earth is truly breathtaking! It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes, and remember to bring a jacket as the mountain wind can be strong. ⚠️If the Aso crater is closed recently, the itinerary will be flexibly adjusted to include Tsuki-no-Kaeru Park or Senba-Tsuru Park, or Roadside Station Aso Bousou Kugino. Please understand that the tour guide will adjust according to the actual situation. 📍Third Stop: Kusasenri After descending from the volcano, you’ll arrive at the most healing place – [Kusasenri]. This is a vast green grassland where cows and horses graze leisurely, like a scene from a postcard. Whether it’s a horseback riding experience or a leisurely stroll and photo session, it’s an excellent choice! When the weather is good, the blue sky and green grass complement each other, making it so beautiful you won’t want to leave. 📍Fourth Stop: Kurokawa Onsen In the evening, come to [Kurokawa Onsen] for a hot spring bath to end a perfect day. There are many open-air hot springs here, each hidden in nature. Soaking in the steaming hot spring water, gazing at the starry sky, will wash away all your fatigue. You can also try the “Onsen Hopping Pass” to visit several hot springs in one day, which is great value and fun! Currently, only Chinese-speaking tour guides are available for departures from Kumamoto.

Reviews summaryWe really like our guide Carson!! He asked about our preferred language when we first met, since my Chinese speaking skills are pretty bad lol so we were gonna talk to him in English but surprisingly he could speak Cantonese as well! during the intros he would speak in Chinese and English (we could understand both) and if we had any questions we could use Cantonese which was just perfect. I really liked the mountains and had time to do some shopping and take photos. I personally don’t really enjoy onsens but I was happy to see a chubby cat there and those unique buildings. Carson also reminded us about snakes because it was the first sunny day after days of raining. Carson was very helpful and full of information, we really liked him as our guide which was one of the main reasons we trusted this company and went on another trip.
Our tour guide, Ada, was very accommodating and gracious despite being a few minutes late during meet-up. She also made sure that I did not miss out on any activities by asking if I wanted to go to a specific place or try doing an onsen bath. She also explained clearly why we are not able to go to Mt Aso and suggested an alternative instead. Apart from that, the combination of places that we went to were really amazing! My faves were the Kamishikimi shrine and Kurokawa onsen. I really wish we had more time at the shrine though - the vibe of that place was just magical • Overall, the tour the was very worth it for its price. Highy recommend!!
Ada was really awesome. She was knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions we had. she made it really easy for everyone and made she everyone had a nice time. I highly recommend Ada if you have a similar tour.
My first group tour experience was truly special. Thanks to the tour, I finally got to visit Kusasenri, a place I'd wanted to see for a long time. Our guide, Sun Peng, provided very detailed explanations of each attraction, as well as the unique characteristics and history of Kumamoto. He also helped everyone take photos at each spot 📷, and they all turned out beautifully – I loved them! Every place we visited was genuinely stunning, filled with abundant nature. I highly recommend this one-day tour for solo travelers or anyone who prefers not to drive themselves, as it's very convenient. Although we couldn't get close to Mount Aso due to recent news, the observatory recommended by our guide at Kusasenri offered a breathtaking distant view of Mount Aso and a panoramic overlook of Kusasenri itself. It was absolutely gorgeous! Even though we only stayed for about an hour, it was incredibly worthwhile and definitely worth the walk! 👍
This tour was incredibly satisfying! I came on this trip so suddenly that I didn't have time to research anything, so I hastily booked the tour the night before. The itinerary was so well-planned, and our guide, Aiko-san, was wonderful :) Although there wasn't a Korean-speaking guide, she guided us in English, which made it very comfortable and easy to understand. Next time, I'd love to book the same tour and bring my parents! If I had gone alone, the Shinkansen fare and other transportation costs would have easily exceeded 150,000 won, but I was able to visit all the places I wanted at a reasonable price, which was fantastic.
This activity route was a really well planned one! I got to see many pretty spots near Kumamoto like Mount Aso, Kamishikimi Shrine and Kusasenri. Our tour guide Wu Shan was really friendly. Although it’s a bummer that the time given for Kusasenri was a little short (1h to eat, shop for souvenirs and explore Kusasenri), I still enjoyed myself and making friends with the people on the same tour group.
Our family enjoyed the tour a lot. All the places that we went to was breathtaking. Our tour guide Chao was also amazing. He was really nice and gave very informative details about the places that we went to. The tour guide and the tour is highly recommended
The meeting points were very convenient, and our tour guide, Xiao Wang, meticulously assisted every tourist. The travel time was long, so four attractions were already plenty, not too many. We had enough time to climb to the top of Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine and take photos. The weather in April is often cloudy and rainy, which made the shrine and forest appear like an enchanting, mystical wonderland. Aso Mountain's entrance was closed due to heavy fog, so we could only view it from a distance at Kusasenri and have our meal there. Our guide, Xiao Wang, provided detailed explanations on how to order and pick up food. Both the white rice and miso soup were all-you-can-eat, and the horse sashimi rice bowl was delicious. Xiao Wang also recommended the milk from Aso Farm. Finally, we arrived at Kurokawa Onsen, where we had enough time to enjoy a foot bath and a beauty bath. After giving us complimentary onsen eggs, Xiao Wang recommended an affordable hot spring for bathing, and 20-30 minutes was sufficient. We also quickly walked through the hot spring town beforehand. Xiao Wang provided everyone with a lot of important information.
tour was great and well organized, but best praise should go to our tour guide (ada) because bus was packed with people and itinerary is intense most people speaks mandarin and very few English people attended today, but she managed really well the situations and gives us tips and short cuts. I didn’t feel like a solo traveler at all. she was there for photos and advices.
We truly enjoyed the Kamishikimi – Mt. Aso – Kusasenri – Kurokawa Onsen tour. Our guide, Ms. Yang, was incredibly kind and spoke excellent English. She generously shared all the best spots and restaurant recommendations, and she was always polite and respectful throughout the trip. She even gave each of us a small token, which was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture. Our driver was also highly skilled and made us feel safe the entire time. 👏 Overall, it was a wonderful and memorable experience!
