Great experience! The teacher is very serious and enthusiastic! There were 4 of us in a group, and everyone was able to experience a different kind of taiko drumming! The teacher is very responsible and will send us a confirmation email a few days in advance! On the day of class, we met in front of the station and then went to the practice room! In addition to giving us playing demonstrations and teaching simple drumming methods, we also arranged songs for us to play together. Finally, under the teacher's command, we played a song together, which was quite enjoyable! This price is really cost-effective in Tokyo!
After playing Taiko no Tatsujin for several years, I finally got to experience the real Taiko drum! And because it was the off-season for tourism, there were no other reservations at this time, so I got a one-on-one lesson at the group ticket price (((o(*゚▽゚*)o))). After experiencing the real Taiko drum, I realized that both the Taiko and the big drums used in Chinese dragon and lion dances require solid, thick sticks and forceful strikes to produce a crisp, loud, and full sound. And this sound must be continuously and stably output, without weakening, until the end of the performance. It's absolutely impossible to last without the help of all the muscles in the body. However, if you're constantly tense, the drumsticks won't be flexible, and you won't be able to play smoothly, so you need to use your body strength but relax your wrists, and it's also important to be aware of and adjust the details of your body. (Come to think of it, many instruments require relaxed wrists~ All in all, I'm so lucky to be able to unlock this achievement with such a complete experience ( ´▽` )
Sensei really guided us thru learning how to do taiko drums. My friend was a skilled drummer and I was a beginner so we have vastly different skill levels; he navigated this difficulty well, giving me simpler versions of the difficult exercises. Would recommend this activity to everyone
We had a brilliant time for a bachelor party. Our friend was getting married and is highly skilled at drumming, we suprised him with this activity which he loved and all were able to get involved. Even though we had 5 people, the 4 drums provided was great for the group letting us take turns to rest. Great experience for those percussionists!!
seems to be the instructor's passion project, i bet he has a normal day job and this is something he does on the extra. The experience is he shares a beat then you follow. Pretty hard if you dont have rhythm. He is very genuine and passionate about this art. When we got there it was just me and my companions so it was like a private session.
We had so much fun learning to play different rhythms on taiko, it was a fun level of challenge and instructor was very nice. He spoke decent English and took some videos for us. Overall I would recommend this activity, especially for people who loved the arcade taiko game.
This was an amazing experience. I have played the drums for over 30 years and had never had the chance to learn Taiko drumming. My wife on the other hand has never picked up sticks expecting when messing with mine. Finding the meeting spot in Oduko was really easy and only about 20 minutes by subway from Tokyo proper. He met us right on time. Naoichi was an amazing instructor. He knew his style of drumming very well and explained the customs and was able to teach me new things that I have never learned and was so patient and complimentary with my wife. She felt just as comfortable as I did. we both enjoyed the experience very much. One thing I should feel I should mention. if you are expecting a big building with a professional music room set up and 50 drums laid out in a modern studio, then this is not the correct activity for you. This was in the basement of a building where he has his studio. He carries the drums with him and sets them up o. chairs. This in NO WAY takes away from the experience, but adds to it in my opinion. it was a real man, and a real musician, sharing his love of his instrument. it was not a touristy kind of set up where you buy souvenirs afterwards. You leave with incredible memories, laughs and pictures. We highly recommend this for both active drummers and extreme begginers who have never picked up sticks.
A dynamic experience! After meeting near a train station, we walked to the studio where the activity took place. The teacher explained the basic techniques and gradually increased the level of difficulty. Afterwards, he taught us various rhythms and before the class was over, we were able to play a song as a group. We had the opportunity to practice with drums of different sizes. Thanks to the teacher for creating a lively atmosphere from the first minute and for teaching us with sympathy and a sense of humor. Highly recommend!
This was such a special experience! The instructor was kind and encouraging, and the facility is very convenient to the subway station. It is good value for the money for sure!
The studio was fairly small but it was sufficient for our group of 4. The kids had a great time. We went through basic rhythm and ended with attempting a short song.
