What to expect
The Earnslaw Burn Heli Hike is a thrilling experience that takes you on a helicopter ride over Glenorchy, the Dart River, and Mt Alfred before landing in the Mt Earnslaw basin. From there, you will embark on a guided hike through some of New Zealand's most picturesque landscapes. The trail follows a glacier-fed river, showcasing an array of flora and fauna, tussock, speargrass, and waterfalls, culminating in the breathtaking Earnslaw Burn waterfall below the world-renowned Mt Earnslaw Glacier. You will have ample photo opportunities, storytelling, and time to take in the magnificent views. After a picnic lunch, the helicopter will take you on a 1,000-meter ascent towards the blue ice of the hanging glacier before returning you to Glenorchy. This easy to moderate hike is suitable for most people with moderate fitness levels, with guided assistance throughout the journey. The trip will last approximately 20-25 minutes of flying, 1 hour and 30 minutes - 2 hours of hiking, and 1-1 hour and 30 minutes for a picnic and exploring.
