What to expect
The Hengshan Calligraphy Art Museum, named after the traditional regional designation, is situated beside the Hengshan Pond waterfront in Taoyuan. The main building consists of a shape composed of five seal stones, combined with the imagery of an inkstone grinding ink. Embraced by the pond and the shifting light and shadow of the setting sun, it reflects a natural ink-wash painting environment that complements its surroundings. The overall architecture has won numerous awards, including the 2018 National Excellent Construction Award “Best Planning and Design Category” Gold Award, the 2022 Taiwan Architecture Award, the 2022 Global Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) Global Excellence Awards Gold Award, the 2022 Japan Good Design Award, the 2022 Shopping Design Award, and the honor of being one of the top ten exhibition platforms. The Hengshan Calligraphy Art Museum is Taiwan’s only public calligraphy art-themed museum, responsible for promoting the preservation, research, development, and promotion of Taiwanese calligraphy art. Its goals are to establish a foundation for calligraphy research and education, shape local arts and cultural characteristics, and promote international calligraphy art exchange. Since its opening in 2021, it has strived to connect Taoyuan’s culture with calligraphy ecology, and to construct an international calligraphy art base with a macroscopic vision of the development of international calligraphy art.
