Reviews
Fantastice experience at making your own chopsticks. Our instructure Yin explained throughly and attentively, which made everything really simple to follow. They continuously checked in on us throughout the process reassuring and assisting when needed. Very beautiful workspace, polite staff, and fun physically independent craft.
Incredible! The class was such a fun and memorable experience! The host Rie created a warm, welcoming atmosphere and was incredibly patient and attentive with our two children aged 6 & 9. Everyone was able to participate and enjoy themselves regardless of skill level. The guidance was clear, encouraging, and made learning feel easy and enjoyable. We left not only more confident with chopsticks but also with great memories. Definitely worth trying! We didnt feel pressured about upgrading the wood or engraving but ended with x3 upgraded woods and x3 engraving adding a personal touch. Thank you Rie,
It was a very nice experience and a great souvenir to take home. We received excellent instructions and help whenever something didn't quite work out. The instructors were very kind and also paid attention to safety, ensuring that no one got hurt with the planes. Thank you very much for a lasting memory!
Our package has a choice between two types of wood only, and all the other wood types require additional costs (from 2k-10k ¥) and were said to pose more difficulty in creating the chopsticks due to wood hardness. Place has a pin on Google maps and is walkable from Shinjuku station, and the class isn't exactly one-on-one. Most instructors were European so there's not much of a language barrier. They're all approachable for any questions or assistance in case there's something wrong with the blade or you're having difficulty with your wood type (or maybe you're unknowingly going against the grain). Making the chopsticks takes effort and care, but even children can make it with you because of the wood docks/mold you can mount the chopstick into while shaving/carving it. Such a unique experience and definitely worth the price!
Mio was our expert today and she was so amazing and patient with us. Thanks to Mio we were able to help us make the most amazing chopsticks ever. We will be eating with our sticks for a long time to come!!!!
We had a wonderful time! We arrived a little early and Yin immediately greeted us and welcomed us in the the shop. He explained the different wood options and walked us through the process of making our chopsticks. He was nearby the entire time and made sure he answered all of our questions. We love our end results and would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in making their own chopsticks.
One of the best experiences I’ve had in Tokyo. Yin walked me through every step patiently and made the whole process feel really approachable even for a complete beginner. I got so into it I cut myself on the wood shaver but honestly totally worth it. Ended up with a beautiful pair of hinoki chopsticks engraved with my name, Tokyo, and the date. The wood shavings alone were satisfying to watch. Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Shinjuku.
A fantastic experience for our first day in Tokyo and great fun if you have a spare hour to fill. Our instructor Ryogo was fantastic, he showed us exactly how to use the tools and explained the best types of wood to use to get the best result. The cost of this experience is very cheap and whilst it doesn’t need to cost anymore, there is the option to upgrade to nicer more expensive wood types and personalise your chopsticks with laser engraving. We upgraded and were more than happy to as we really enjoyed this experience and would highly recommend to anyone.
We had some trouble finding the place because the Google Maps link didn't work. We ended up arriving an hour late, but they were very understanding and still allowed us to join the workshop. We could choose from several types of wood (some for an additional charge), and we were kindly welcomed by Lucy; she truly made our day. We had our chopsticks engraved and had a wonderful experience. If you're in Tokyo and want to take home something fun, creative, and a truly handmade souvenir, then definitely take this workshop.
Was an amazing experience if you want to take home a one of a kind souvenir. It was quite a large group of people, but was very one on one, having the instructors come by and check on you every so often. We ended up engraving ours which was extra, but worth it! Yin and Masa were wonderful teachers! Only downside was how fast the time went and by the time we finished, there were others waiting to make their chopsticks. If you are from Aus or NZ, you won't be able to take home your chopstick shavings :(
