Guide

  • This is the former residence of Du Fu, a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty, during his exile in Chengdu. Du Fu lived here for nearly four years and composed over a hundred poems, making it regarded as a "sacred place" in the history of Chinese literature. The current Du Fu Thatched Cottage has been restored multiple times through the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties.
  • The cottage is located on the bank of the Huanhua Stream outside the west gate of Chengdu, with pavilions and towering ancient trees throughout the garden. After entering through the main gate, the three main buildings—Daxie, Poetry History Hall, and Gongbu Shrine—are arranged in order from south to north along the central axis. To the northeast of Gongbu Shrine are the Shaoling Stele Pavilion and the thatched cottage where the great poet lived. To the east of the thatched cottage is the Penjing Garden, and to the south are Huanhua Shrine, Flower Path, Daya Hall, and the Thatched Cottage Exhibition Room near the south gate.
