Infinite Creativity in Art

Sun Museum, in collaboration with the Labour and Welfare Bureau, Social Welfare Department, and the Arts Development Fund for Persons with Disabilities, organize a special exhibition entitled "Infinite Creativity in Art" from 12th January to 16th March, 2024.

The exhibition showcases artworks created by around 200 individuals with disabilities from 17 charitable organizations in Hong Kong. They include Ebenezer School and Home for the Visually Impaired Limited, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Po Leung Kuk, The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong, Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, Caritas – Hong Kong, Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth, Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service,Lutheran Church - Hong Kong Synod, SAHK, Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service- Hong Kong, Wai Ji Christian Service, Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service, New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, St. James’ Settlement, The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council, Lok Chi Association Limited, The Intellectually Disabled Education and Advocacy League Limited.

The exhibitors are persons with different disabilities including those with intellectual disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical disabilities, autism, attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder, and mental health needs. Despite facing different challenges, they have all shown courage and perseverance in overcoming difficulties. With the support and care from various parties, they resolutely develop their artistic potential.

The exhibition features a wide range of artworks, including sketches, watercolor, acrylic, poster color and ink paintings, as well as three-dimensional creations such as pottery, wire sculptures, and paper art. Handicrafts such as weaving, ratten weaving, woodwork, mosaics, and leatherwork are also showcased. There are individual as well as collaborative creations.

For example, LIAUW Ching Ling from the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth showcases her pottery artwork "Timeless Blossoming Life". The melting clock shaped pottery is adorned with vibrant glazes, highlighting the abstractness of time. The blossoming flowers symbolize the wonderful moments in her artistic life. CHAN Mui Ying received watercolor painting training from the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service. Her painting "Long Street" portrays a cold and lonely street in the city, with delicate use of different shades of color. Another watercolor painting in the exhibition "The Artist" was created by Jeffrey Michael CHEUNG from the St. James’ Settlement. With unique and lively brushstrokes, his work vividly portrays the image of Van Gogh.
