Freespace Ensemble: KONG|Concert Introduction

An innovative performance that weaves together original music and real-time moving image inspired by the changes in Hong Kong
On 20 and 21 May, composer and music director Linus Fung leads musicians from Freespace Ensemble in a multimedia concert that looks at Hong Kong through the lens of a goldfish in a tank.
Trapped in the confined space, it is believed that these domesticated marine creatures lose sight of the rapid transformations and the ever-changing nature of the outside world. Drawing on this analogy between goldfish and Hongkongers, Fung composes a set of original music that blends his experience in the city, including its sights and history, with electronic music elements.
Fung will perform the pieces live in The Room in Freespace with musicians Bowen Li, Nelson Fung and Dean Li, accompanied by real-time camera work and moving image of a fish tank on the stage by visual artist moon.noon, which will be projected on a screen. Weaving contrasting musical textures with a spontaneous visual artwork, the innovative performance encourages the artists and audience to reflect on the changes in Hong Kong over the years.
