Rent a car in Higashiibaraki
Convenience and Exploration
Renting a car in Higashiibaraki offers the freedom to explore at your own pace. With your own set of wheels, you can easily drive to the beautiful Oarai Beach, or visit the historic Oarai Isosaki Shrine without the constraints of public transportation schedules. Enjoy the flexibility to discover hidden gems and scenic spots throughout the Ibaraki Prefecture that are less accessible by train or bus.
Vehicle Inspection and Rental Agreement
Upon receiving your rental car, perform a thorough check for any pre-existing damage. Document any imperfections with photographs or video to ensure you're not held accountable upon return. Familiarize yourself with the rental contract, noting details like mileage allowances, fuel policies, insurance inclusions, and any additional fees. Remember to refuel before returning the car to avoid extra charges, and if you're running late, contact the rental agency to discuss extending your rental or to avoid late return fees.
Child Safety Requirements
In Japan, child safety in vehicles is paramount. Children under six must use a child seat, and rental agencies typically offer these. Confirm availability and whether the seats will be pre-installed in your vehicle. Traveling without the appropriate child seat is illegal and can result in penalties, so ensure this is arranged prior to your journey.
Navigating Traffic
Driving in Higashiibaraki may be more relaxed than in Tokyo, but it's still wise to avoid rush hours to prevent delays. Plan your travel times accordingly, and use the car's GPS system to navigate around any congested areas. This will save you time and help you enjoy a more pleasant driving experience.
Cost-Effective Travel
While taxis and public transport can be expensive and challenging to navigate, renting a car can be an economical alternative. Equipped with GPS navigation, you can confidently drive to attractions like the Hitachi Seaside Park or the Fukuroda Falls without the worry of high taxi fares or the hassle of transfers between trains or buses.
Rental Services Accessibility
When you arrive in Higashiibaraki, you'll find a variety of car rental services to choose from. Whether you're arriving by train or other means, ensure you've pre-booked your vehicle for a smooth pickup process. Check for any nearby rental locations and their operating hours to align with your travel schedule.
Driving Etiquette and Regulations
In Higashiibaraki, as in the rest of Japan, driving is on the left side of the road. Road signs are usually bilingual, but it's beneficial to have a car with an English GPS system, especially for navigating smaller roads. Always obey traffic laws, such as stopping at red lights and railway crossings, and never drink and drive. Be mindful of cyclists and pedestrians, and respect the local driving culture for a safe and enjoyable trip.

Fantastic Wagon R Suzuki 1 days
The store was easy to find, and the vehicle was in good condition. However, the car pickup process took a surprisingly long time. The staff seemed unfamiliar with assisting foreign tourists and didn't even recognize an international driving permit. It took 45 minutes to finally get the car.
