What to expect
Spend some time immersing yourself in the unique cultural traditions and religious practices of Myanmar by participating in an ancient Buddhist ritual at a local monastery in Mandalay. In the morning, get picked up at your hotel/accommodation in Mandalay by an air-conditioned vehicle, then make your way to Mahagandayon Monastery in Amarapura. Known as the most prominent monastic college in Mandalay, the young monks inside study for about 7 to 10 years to complete their education. Watch in awe as thousands of monks queue up for lunch, their last meal for the day. Participate in a mystic food donation ritual by offering the monks in queue rice and cakes, which is said to earn you merit and improve your karma. If you wish to, you can also make a separate donation to the monastery, before you pack up and get dropped off back at your accommodation.
