This special exhibition showcases approximately 280 artifacts from the British Museum's collection, making it the largest of its kind ever held in Taiwan. The exhibition focuses on the multifaceted roles of the 'Pharaoh' (god, ruler, warrior). Stunning Visuals and Spatial Experience: Fist of the Colossal Statue of Ramesses II: Weighing 1.5 tons, this single fist alone gives a sense of the grandeur of the original statue (approximately 65 feet tall). To accommodate Taiwan's seismic activity, the museum specially reinforced the exhibition hall structure and steel base, making its weight incredibly impressive to see in person. Seated Statue of Seti II: This is the main visual for the exhibition. The curator specifically recommends observing the statue's 'knees,' where the artisans' detailed depiction of bone and muscle remains remarkably clear and lifelike even after 3,000 years. Temple Immersion Experience: The exhibition space uses light and shadow walls to depict the changing light in a temple from sunrise to sunset, accompanied by low-frequency sound waves, creating a powerful sense of ritual. Exquisite Small Artifacts: In addition to the colossal stone sculptures, tiny gold amulets, rings, and intricate papyrus documents (such as fragments recording the Battle of Kadesh) also demonstrate the pinnacle of ancient Egyptian craftsmanship. Interactive Highlight: The exhibition features an interactive area where you can enter your English name on a tablet, and the system will convert it into a personalized 'Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphic' name cartouche.
Stepping into the Chimei Museum's permanent exhibition is like embarking on a journey through time and space. Starting in the Western Art Hall, each classical oil painting is delicate and moving, with the expressions of the figures and the layers of light and shadow captivating visitors for a long time. The marble works in the sculpture area further showcase the beauty of human art and the ultimate craftsmanship. Moving into the Arms and Armor Hall, the armor and ancient weapons are neatly displayed, as if one can imagine the historical scenes on the battlefield, both shocking and full of stories. What surprised me the most was the Musical Instrument Hall, where elegant violins and pianos are quietly displayed, accompanied by on-site music introduction videos, which help people better understand the culture and emotions behind the sounds. The overall flow of the exhibition is smooth, and the lighting is soft and comfortable, so you don't feel tired even if you take your time to appreciate it. The Chimei permanent exhibition not only enriches knowledge but also allows people to settle their minds, making it a wonderful experience that combines art, history, and emotion.
price is cheap. chimei museum is just walkable fron local train station boa’an. it was so big to explore and appreciate things. one thing good in this museum is there is a park where you can just enjoy and relax
Love this place. I first thought it was only an art museum, but they also have other exhibitions like animals, armory, etc. Too bad I couldn't get to see the pharaoh one as it wasn't open when I went.
It was so easy to just walked to entrance of the permanent exhibit and scan the QR code voucher. No need to get in line for a ticket. I recommend getting an audio guide. I spent 5 hours there - 4 hours exploring the exhibits and gift shop and 1 hour break in Starbucks. Make sure to follow the signs indicating if photos and videos are allowed. Don’t forget to catch a orchestra showing - at the top of every hour.
Looks like there are 3 different parking lots. It's a super sunny and hot walk to the museum. It's so bright you can barely open your eyes for photos 😂. The museum has 4 halls included in the general admission ticket of $200. I've always loved the animal hall the most. I took my 5-year-old and 1-year-old sons. I pulled up the Chimei Museum website on my phone, and at the bottom of each hall's page, there are some pictures of must-see items that you can show the kids to find. I told him if he found all 20 items, he could get a star when we got home (we have a reward point system at home). The AC inside is a bit strong, so I recommend bringing a light jacket. There's an Italian restaurant, a cafe, a 7-11, and a Starbucks inside. The 7-11 has three rows of tables, maybe about 20-some seats. Not a lot, so you might have to wait or take your food somewhere else to eat. However, you can't drink water or eat food in the exhibit areas. So the worst case scenario is you might have to stand and eat or go outside. The volunteers/staff are all amazing and full of knowledge. 👍
The Chimei Museum was bigger than we expected. Me and my husband bought for the dual Special exhibition ticket. we spent abt 1.5hrs during the exhibition and spending most of the time outside the exhibition as the view was magnificent!
There are different sections in the permanent exhibit: animals, sculptures, weapons and armors, and musical instruments. Even the hallway leading to to the comfort rooms have stuff on the wall. I recommend watching the walk-in orchestra and the mechanical instrument explainer videos. Really interesting. There’s a souvenir shop at the end of the exhibit. Deep Blue Cafe is also located there. The whole complex is big so you can take a stroll in outside park.
