Liuhe Pagoda

The Liuhe Pagoda is adjacent to the Qiantang River Bridge. Climbing the pagoda offers views of the Qiantang River. This pagoda was initially built by a high monk in the Northern Song Dynasty to suppress the Qiantang River tide. From the outside, the nearly 60-meter-tall ancient pagoda has 13 stories, each with many small windows, and 104 iron bells hanging from the upturned eaves. However, there are actually only seven stories inside, with a unique "seven bright and six dark" structure.

The park is not large; after entering the main gate and walking a short distance, you reach the foot of the ancient pagoda. The Liuhe Pagoda can be climbed, and the stairs become narrower as you ascend, making the climb a bit strenuous, feeling like climbing a small attic. Each floor allows you to step out and enjoy the view, looking into the distance from different heights. Upon reaching the top floor, you can see the rolling Qiantang River directly below, the Qiantang River Bridge spanning both banks, and the buildings and greenery on both sides of the river are all visible. The river breeze makes the iron bells jingle, creating a rich ancient charm.

The Liuhe Pagoda has long been a favorite spot for literati and poets to view the river and compose poems. It has undergone renovations in various dynasties, and the pagoda's interior is carved with patterns of flowers, birds, beasts, and flying immortals. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, during his visit, inscribed plaques for each floor, and today, plaques inscribed by later calligraphers can be seen inside the pagoda. The pagoda also houses ancient relics such as the stele of Shangshu Tang from the Southern Song Dynasty and fragments of the "Sutra of Forty-two Chapters" written by forty-two calligraphers.
