What is a "Red Envelope Club"?

In the era before KTVs, the internet, and streaming music, cabaret clubs were an important form of popular entertainment for the people of Taipei. Singers performed right in front of the audience, while patrons drank tea, chatted, and listened to songs; whichever singer they liked, they would show their support through applause and red envelopes (tips). Between the singer and the audience, there was no distant stage gap. The red envelope was not just a tip, but a form of human connection and exchange.
