Kairakuen is one of the three most famous gardens in Japan. It is mainly for plum blossoms. It is recommended that you wait until the season is right to visit it for a more spectacular view. The park ticket is cheap and you can enter and exit the park unlimitedly on the same day. There is also a shrine nearby to visit.
It's a wonderful plum garden. The white, light pink, and dark pink plum blossoms were blooming beautifully. There are ticket booths near the parking lot and at the entrance, but they were quite crowded. I was glad I had purchased my ticket from Klook in the car on the way there, so I was able to enter immediately.
The communication environment at the Kairakuen entrance was poor, so it would be good to have the voucher ready to display immediately after booking. Thanks to the e-ticket for Kobuntei Garden, we were able to enter smoothly without having to wait in a long line.
You can enter Kairakuen Garden by scanning the QR code at the entrance. Purchasing tickets in advance is very convenient, and the admission fee is inexpensive and a great value. Kairakuen Garden is very large, with beautiful landscaping and many sights to see. Highly recommended.
The weather was great, it was the best! Since I purchased my ticket electronically, entry was smooth.
Kairakuen Garden in early March during the Plum Blossom Festival is absolutely beautiful, and seeing the various types of plum blossoms is well worth it. Inside, you can visit the Kobuntei Pavilion to see the rooms where generals once lived and enjoy the scenery. The only minor drawback is that the cafe inside Kobuntei Pavilion has limited seating, so I wasn't able to experience it on the day of my visit due to the large number of people dining in.
Free admission to Kairakuen Garden before 9 AM. Service: Staff are friendly and helpful.
It is one of the three great gardens of Japan. The view from the second floor of Kobuntei is amazing. If you visit Ibaraki, be sure to visit this place.

Guide

  • Stunning Seasonal Blooms: Explore 3,000 plum trees in full bloom during the annual Plum Festival from February to March, followed by cherry blossoms and azaleas
  • Historic Charm: Visit Kobuntei, the two-story wooden building designed by Tokugawa Nariaki, where poetry and tea ceremonies once took place
  • Cultural Heritage: Kairakuen, one of Japan’s three most famous gardens, offers a peaceful retreat for all to enjoy, just as it was intended when it was created in 1842

Kairakuen is one of Japan's three most famous gardens, along with Kenrokuen in Kanazawa and Korakuen in Okayama. It was built in 1842 by Tokugawa Nariaki, the ninth lord of the Mito domain, and was named Kairakuen because he wanted it to be a place for the people to enjoy together.

The spacious garden is planted with 3,000 plum trees of about 100 varieties, and the plum festival, held every year from mid-February to late March, allows visitors to enjoy the garden to the fullest as the plum trees bloom. After the plum season ends, the garden is decorated with cherry blossoms, azaleas, and in September, bush clover. Kobuntei is a two-story, three-story wooden building located in Kairakuen, said to have been designed by Tokugawa Nariaki, the ninth lord of the Mito domain himself. It is noted that Nariaki invited literati, vassals, and people from within his domain to enjoy poetry and tea ceremonies.
