What to expect

  • Geibikei Gorge Boat Ride: Experience Spectacular Canyons and Boat Song Culture Located in Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture, Geibikei Gorge is a representative scenic valley in the Tohoku region. The towering cliffs on both sides stretch along the clear stream, creating a majestic atmosphere that inspires awe at the grandeur of nature. Each season offers a different view: cherry blossoms from late April to early May; wisteria flowers in late May; green leaves and mountain mist in summer; autumn foliage; and the snow-viewing heated kotatsu boat and the chance to enjoy the local specialty hot pot dish, “Koryunabe,” unique to winter. The boat tour uses a traditional manual rowing method, and the boats are even handmade by the boatmen! Experienced boatmen row with a single oar, carefully introducing the various attractions and rock wall stories along the way. During the trip, you can also interact warmly with passengers on opposing boats, creating a friendly and fun atmosphere. The tour includes a short disembarkation time for a walk, where visitors can try to throw lucky stones into the rock cave. It is said that if you succeed in getting the stone into the hole, your wishes will come true. On the return trip, the boatmen will sing the traditional boat song “Geibi Oiwake,” with the clear voice echoing through the canyon, marking a perfect ending to this leisurely and unforgettable water journey.
  • Chuson-ji Temple and Konjiki-do Hall: A World Heritage Site Reflected in Gold Chuson-ji Temple is one of the most important ancient Buddhist temples in Iwate Prefecture. Konjiki-do Hall is decorated with gold leaf, showcasing the artistic essence of the Heian period. Stroll along the cedar-lined path and quietly feel the atmosphere where history and nature blend together.
