What to expect
In Fukuoka, springtime is best enjoyed by strolling along the cherry blossoms. This one-day cherry blossom tour connects popular spots in the city and its suburbs, eliminating the need to research transportation or rush through the itinerary, allowing you to experience the spring scenery at a relaxed pace.
The tour starts at Kamado Shrine at Houman Palace. Surrounded by forest, the shrine takes on a soft atmosphere during the cherry blossom season. Walking along the approach, you can see cherry blossoms dotting the branches above, creating a quiet and comfortable experience. Next, you will visit Akizuki Castle Ruins, known as "Little Kyoto of Chikuzen," where you will have free time to stroll and take photos. Walking along the castle ruins and old streets, the essence of spring naturally blends into your steps.
Following this is the Nagaregawa Sakura Namiki, a row of cherry trees extending along the river. The cherry blossoms in full bloom on both sides of the river form a pink path, offering an open view and fewer crowds, perfect for slowing down to take pictures and simply enjoying the moment of cherry blossom splendor. Afterwards, you will head to Ukiha Inari Shrine, where rows of vermilion torii gates are arranged along the hillside. Enhanced by the cherry blossoms and natural scenery, it adds a lively touch and is a varied and exciting stop on the tour.
When returning, you can choose to disembark at Hakata Station, ending the day’s itinerary. Alternatively, you can choose to get off at Maizuru Park. During the cherry blossom season, the castle ruins and vast cherry blossoms intertwine, creating a lively yet historical atmosphere. Whether you’re strolling or taking photos, you can feel the unique vitality of spring, marking a relaxing end to the day’s itinerary. Next to it is Ohori Park, a must-visit in Fukuoka. The park area features cafes, art museums, and relaxation spaces, allowing you to enjoy the natural scenery and arrange for short breaks. This is a cherry blossom viewing route that doesn’t rush the itinerary or require strenuous effort, making it ideal for travelers who want to take a leisurely walk, take photos, and simply enjoy the spring in Fukuoka.

Reviews
I highly recommend this cherry blossom viewing tour. What makes this tour special is the excellent selection of locations: Kamado Shrine, Akizuki Castle Ruins, Rukawa Cherry Blossom Avenue, and Ukiha Inari Shrine. These are all places that are very difficult to reach by public transport if you're traveling independently without a car. For example, to get to Kamado Shrine, you have to transfer from Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine to a bus, which only runs once an hour. Akizuki and Ukiha are located in quite rural areas, making them challenging to access even with public transportation. I participated in this tour on March 27, 2026. Since the group was small, about ten people, we traveled by minivan. The guide, who also served as the driver, was quite humorous. He provided only basic introductions to the sights, giving information about timings, meeting points, and restroom locations. However, since most of this tour involves free time for cherry blossom viewing, the lack of in-depth commentary didn't significantly impact the trip. Although the time spent at each stop seemed brief, there was actually plenty of time for photos, and all group members returned to the vehicle quite early, so there were no delays. The first stop was Kamado Shrine. The cherry blossoms blooming at the entrance, likely Somei Yoshino, adorned the shrine in a beautiful pale pink. Just at the torii gate, it was excellent for photos, and unlike other cherry blossom viewing spots, there were no locals laying out mats for picnics, allowing for free composition. The wind on the mountain was quite strong, so when the timing was right, we could enjoy the sight of cherry blossoms fluttering like snow. The shrine's main hall also had weeping cherry trees with vibrant pink petals, offering a different kind of beauty. Since we arrived quite early, although the shrine maidens at the shop had started selling souvenirs and charms, the Goshuin (red stamp) reception counter wasn't open yet. Therefore, if you want to get a Goshuin, this tour might not be suitable; you'd need to find time to visit on your own. Due to the bus to Kamado Shrine running only once an hour, if there's a long queue for Goshuin (if one person takes an average of ten minutes), you might miss your bus. As a shrine famous for matchmaking, you can purchase related charms or souvenirs at the shop. The second stop was Akizuki Castle Ruins. You have to drive through small country roads into a mountain basin; without a day tour, I wouldn't know how to get there. We arrived just after 10:30 AM and had two hours of free time. However, it takes about fifteen minutes to walk from the parking lot, so I strongly recommend not being captivated by the Suginobaba Cherry Blossom Tunnel and instead going to eat immediately. Otherwise, with too many people, you might not find a seat for lunch. For food, you could choose Kuromon Chaya on the main street, but I turned into an alley to a cafe and light meal restaurant called Mikkii, which was quieter and away from the cherry blossom crowds. I originally wanted to try the local Jidori Koshu chicken, but it wasn't available, so I had their signature hamburger steak. Its corn soup was the richest and most delicious I've ever tasted, truly amazing, and the special hamburger steak sauce was even better than those at hamburger steak restaurants in Hakata Station. Due to character limits, I will skip Ukiha Inari. The cherry blossom trees along the avenue stretched for two kilometers, more than all the cherry blossoms I saw during my five days in Kyushu combined—it was absolutely worth it! You can choose your drop-off location. If you get off at Maizuru Park, you can attend the evening cherry blossom festival, which starts at 6:30 PM (you'll need to buy a separate ticket). There are three exhibition areas where you can enjoy the night cherry blossom light show held at Fukuoka Castle. You can also visit the Yozakura Festival's food stall area (no ticket required) and enjoy street food under the cherry trees.
This was a wonderful experience; our tour guide, Mr. Zhang Dong, was very friendly. 🥰 He provided detailed explanations at each attraction. 👍🏻 The cherry blossoms at Homan-gu Kamado Shrine were in full bloom in late March, which was incredibly beautiful! 🌸 Ukiha Inari Shrine is one of the most scenic sacred sites, and I was so glad we didn't have to walk up from the bottom this time. 🤣 Our guide drove us to the top, and when we got out, the view was truly stunning. The pastoral scenery from the shrine was so beautiful and incredibly therapeutic! 🥰
It's not easy for Tour Guide Zhang to wear so many hats, acting as both driver and guide. Although it was cloudy and rainy in the morning, preventing us from fully enjoying the cherry blossoms, the weather cleared up later, making the rest of the trip much smoother and very rewarding. He has extensive experience leading tours, and we could ask him about anything we didn't understand.
This tour guarantees cherry blossom viewing. I went at the end of March, and while one or two spots hadn't reached full bloom yet, they were still incredibly beautiful! Our tour guide, Mr. Wang, was also very dedicated and provided us with many insightful explanations. I'd definitely bring my elderly family members on this tour next time, as it doesn't involve too much walking.
We were quite lucky to see cherry blossoms at all four locations: Kamado Shrine, Akizuki Castle Ruins, Rukawa Cherry Blossom Avenue, and Ukiha Inari Shrine! Kamado Shrine even had small vendors during the day on weekends, making it a great spot to sit and enjoy the blossoms leisurely. Akizuki Castle Ruins was the most surprising highlight of the trip—the entire cherry blossom avenue was truly beautiful! Rukawa Cherry Blossom Avenue is by the river, and many people were picnicking and setting up tents there. Ukiha Inari Shrine had relatively fewer cherry blossoms, but its elevated location offered great city views, which was also wonderful. We took a small bus for this tour, and our guide, Qiu Yangyang, enthusiastically introduced various cherry blossom viewing spots and other attractions in Fukuoka. When we encountered traffic jams approaching a site, he even let us get off first while he slowly waited in line to park, so we didn't waste much time. Overall, I'm highly satisfied and strongly recommend this tour!
Although it rained that day, the tour guide and driver was very experienced and immediately adjusted the itinerary, arranging everything perfectly so that we could all enjoy the cherry blossoms and take beautiful photos.
Highly recommend this itinerary! Tour operator was accommodating - we were non Chinese/Korean tourists and we were able to still join and coordinate with the driver. Cherry blossom stops were 💯! Offhand, would’ve been nice to stay in the 3rd stop longer.
We participated in this tour on March 30th. The cherry blossoms at Kamado Shrine, Akizuki Castle Ruins, and Ryusen Cherry Blossom Avenue were all in full bloom and absolutely beautiful. Ukiha Inari Shrine was comparatively less impressive. Personally, I think more time could have been spent at Ryusen Cherry Blossom Avenue and less at Ukiha Inari Shrine. Our tour guide, Xiao Chang, provided excellent service; he was very polite and thoughtful, and also kindly offered suggestions for photo spots and local delicacies.
The cherry blossoms were amazing and the guide, Chen, was very informative about the history of the sites that we have been to. He made the trip much more interesting and enjoyable!
amazing experience the guide was veey kind and explained the sites well. there was sufficient time at each location abd the sakura was more or less fully bloomed, so it was really beautiful!
