Studio Introduction
Our studio hopes to integrate creativity and personal characteristics into traditional metal crafts through craftsmanship, and present different possibilities to the public through the diversity of techniques and changes in materials. The studio is located in Tsuen Wan, a 2-minute walk from The Mills.
Featured Silver Ring Workshop
—Shaping—
In metal crafts, most purely handmade jewelry is usually made of metal sheets or metal wires. In this "Shaping" ring workshop, you can learn the basic concepts of metal toughness and ductility. By knocking or squeezing with external force, you can change the shape of the metal by using its ductility and malleability, so that the metal presents a richer and more varied shape, making the whole work more three-dimensional.
—Fusing—
Fusing is different from general welding techniques. It mainly raises the surface temperature of the metal to around the melting point, so that the metal surface becomes liquid, thereby achieving fusion with adjacent metals. When learning to weld in the early stages, this technique may indirectly cause the metal surface to melt due to inaccurate temperature control. Interestingly, when used properly, this surface treatment that hovers around melting can be a unique aesthetic.
Workshop Content and Features
- Understand the particularity of metalworking techniques, participants can incorporate personal characteristics and creativity into the finished product
- In order to provide diversity in the finished product, designers/craftsmen will provide guidance on every detail, both in terms of technology and visual effects
- The class will provide metal strips of different thicknesses and shapes, depending on the style requirements. Including teaching the physical concept of metal ductility, tool introduction, metal cutting, polishing, welding and surface treatment techniques.
- People without any jewelry making experience can also participate
- Activity Date: Every Monday to Sunday 2:30pm / 7pm
- Production Length: 3 hours Number of people: 1-4 people
