What to expect
Japanese mochi is traditionally made by pounding steamed rice with wooden mallets until it forms a soft dough. It is then molded by hand. Mochi making is an art form deeply rooted in Japanese culture that even has festivals celebrating it throughout the country. Mochi’s subtle flavors make it a good combination with a variety of sweet flavors, making it a perfect dessert for tea ceremonies and other cultural experiences. Learn to make five different types of this chewy treat in Tokyo. With fillers like ice cream, strawberry, and cinnamon, this class has a mochi for everyone. Enjoy your beautiful hand-made mochi with some matcha tea

Reviews
We had such a fun time at the mochi-making class! It was hands-on, easy to follow, and perfect for our family. The instructor was warm and welcoming, and the mochi turned out absolutely delicious. A sweet and memorable experience!
My son and I loved this class. Muyuki was a great teacher, and we learned a lot about the meaning of seasonal Japanese sweets as well as how to make some of them. we also learned about the traditional tea ceremony and mixed our own matcha to follow eating our sweets. I would highly recommend this class. It was enjoyable and a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle. The photos are of the mochi and other sweets that we actually made during the class, including a plum blossom flower and a winter rabbit. Muyuki has a special table for photographing your creations at the end. If you don’t eat them, you can take them home!
great class and Owa was very patient with us. i would recommend this as a good experience in Tokyo
Participating in the mochi-making experience in Tokyo gave me a deeper understanding of traditional Japanese sweets and left me with unforgettable memories. The class was held in a clean and comfortable classroom with a Japanese ambiance. The instructor was friendly and attentive, and there's no need to worry about not knowing Japanese, as simple English explanations are provided. From steaming the mochi, kneading, filling, to the final decorations, every step was very therapeutic. The strawberry daifuku that I made myself had a chewy skin, combined with red bean paste and fresh strawberries, it was sweet but not greasy, and truly surprisingly delicious. This class is not just about making sweets, but more like a cultural experience, from which I felt the Japanese people's attention to detail and aesthetics. If I have the opportunity in the future, I would like to participate in other Japanese dessert classes, and I highly recommend it to friends who like to get hands-on and want to experience the local culture in depth!
My brother and I booked this and the experience exceeded our expectations. Before making the mochi, we were given a mini lesson on mochi and a bit of history on the different kinds of mochis we would make. Our host Michiko was super socialable, funny and we had lots of good conversation during our time there. I would 100% recommend for others to give this experience a try! (And of course, the mochi was delicious!)
What an amazing experience. Organisers are so friendly and welcoming. Would 10000% recommend this if you're visiting Japan!! 🙂↕️🤌🏻
Visited with my daughter the other day. We found it very relaxing, very informative and a great way to immersive ourselves in traditional Japanese culture. Our host, Michiko, was very attentive, encouraging and a great conversationalist. Of course, the mochi was delicious too! Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tokyo 🤭😋
Such a lovely experience! We were taught the cultural significance of mochi and, of course, making our own. Our instructor was so sweet and knowledgeable. Will definitely book again in the future!
Such a fun and immersive class! Hatsumi was so friendly and made us laugh. we learned the rich history of mochi and got to make/eat so many types. if you want to understand Japanese food culture you have to take this class!
We made five mochi—including strawberry daifuku, dango, and warabi—and everything was delicious! Our instructor, Ayumi, was incredibly helpful and friendly, making the experience both enjoyable and easy to follow. She also provided a recipe so we can recreate everything at home. Highly recommend this activity while in Tokyo.
