Fantastic 5.0
Echo was an excellent tour guide. Even though there weren't enough people for the tour, she still took me alone because she didn't want me to be disappointed, which I really appreciated. It was a pleasure chatting with Echo throughout the trip, and her explanations were very detailed, helping me understand the local customs and culture of Southern France much better. I hope she enjoys her life in Southern France, and I highly recommend everyone join her tours! 😀🫶

Fantastic 5.0
We had a wonderful Luberon day trip with our guide Martina (not sure about the exact spelling). The group was small and very international — I was the only Chinese traveler, traveling alone, alongside a Korean couple and five American friends. It was a really friendly and well-balanced group. Martina was extremely knowledgeable and passionate. She gave detailed explanations about the history, culture, and famous residents of Gordes and Roussillon, and also shared many interesting local stories that made the villages much more vivid and meaningful. Throughout the day, she and the other participants were very considerate and welcoming. I especially appreciated how comfortable and included I felt during the whole trip. I also happened to sit next to Maria and John on the bus, who were very friendly. Overall, it was a beautifully organized tour and one of the highlights of my time in Provence. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Luberon region.

Fantastic 5.0
I'm satisfied with the reservation system, but there isn't much to see inside the Papal Palace. The exterior scenery and the composition of Avignon's buildings viewed from a distance are actually more impressive.

What to know before visiting Avignon

Top experiences and seasonal rhythm

Avignon is dominated by guided Tours and visits to Historical sites, with Tours accounting for the largest share of bookings and demand peaking in May. Interest builds through spring, reaches its height in May and stays strong into June, then tapers off towards the quieter winter months.

Best activities for families, couples and solo travellers

Families will find Historical sites easy to fit into a relaxed schedule and a budget-friendly way to soak up local culture. Couples often prefer guided Tours for a richer, curated experience—these offer mid-range to premium options and the widest variety of choices. Solo travellers and small groups can mix both: low-cost Historical sites for quick stops and Tours when they want a deeper context or a more social outing.

What travellers from Australia should book in advance

With travellers typically booking around sixteen days ahead but the earliest planners locking in plans roughly thirty-six days out, allow some lead time—especially if you’re travelling in the peak month of May when demand surges. Many experiences can still be picked up a day or two before travel, but securing Tours earlier in high season reduces the risk of missing popular departures.

Comparing categories by price and who they suit

Historical sites are the easiest, most affordable way into Avignon’s attractions, sitting at the low end of the price range and suiting budget-conscious visitors and families. Tours are the priciest and also offer the widest spread of options, from entry-level guided outings to higher-end, more specialised experiences, making them a better fit for couples seeking curated experiences and travellers wanting a broader choice of formats.
