About the event
When the lights go down at the London Coliseum and Tchaikovsky's much-loved score begins, English National Ballet carries the audience into one of the season's best-known stories. Snowflakes tumble across the stage and the sets transform before your eyes. For London families, it has become a festive rite of passage.
On Christmas Eve, young Clara receives a nutcracker doll from her mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer. Once the family is asleep, the nutcracker springs to life and leads an army of toy soldiers against the marauding Mouse King. Then he becomes a handsome prince and whisks Clara away to the sparkling Kingdom of Sweets, where the Sugar Plum Fairy reigns.
The production is choreographed by artistic director Aaron S. Watkin and Olivier Award winner Arielle Smith, with sets and costumes by Dick Bird, and is danced at the London Coliseum on St Martin's Lane in London's West End.
Whether it is a child's first ballet or a family tradition in the making, it is a winter evening for children and adults alike. Bring the people you love, and let the story carry you through the season.
