We know travel can be physically and mentally demanding on anyone, especially when you’re travelling as a family with young kids. Long-haul flights and then spending hours in airports waiting can be stressful (and boring!), as you try and entertain the children for hours on end. Why not break up those long flights with a stopover in Singapore! With so many activities and attractions available, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Whether you’re looking for a quick stopover, or something for a couple of days to reset your body clocks before you continue your journey, Singapore is waiting to be explored. We’ve prepared the perfect Singapore stopover for anyone looking to spend 12, 24 or 48 hours in this vibrant, fun and multicultural city!
1. 12 Hour Stopover Itinerary
So you have 12 hours to kill between flights and you’re thinking you’ll just stay in an airport lounge because there isn’t enough time to leave. Think again! Singapore provides some of the best, quick getaways that will stretch your legs, provide some fresh air and even get rid of the excess energy the kids may be carrying from the flight.
Begin your time in Singapore with a visit to the iconic Gardens by the Bay. The waterfront gardens, conservatories and the recently opened Sun Pavilion, feature some of the most incredible man-made structures built to house flora and fauna from all over the world. Stretch your legs as you enjoy a stroll as a family through the Supertree Grove, home to the famed 16-storey man-made trees. With our combo package you will get admissions to the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, and OCBC Skyway where you will see some of the most stunning views of the famous Marina Bay.
If you’re up for a little adventure as a family, you can zip through the gardens with an e-scooter rental.
After you’ve finished taking in all the glorious sites of Garden by the Bay, head on over to the Marina Bay Sands Skypark Observation deck. Located on top of the iconic Marina Bay Sands towers, 57 levels above ground, a visit to the Skypark's Observation Deck is a must for anyone looking to get the best view of the city's gorgeous skyline. This is also the most magical place to watch the sunset over Singapore; watch as the vast colours of the dusk sky slowly fade into twinkling lights from the skyscrapers around you.
After capturing multiple pictures from the Skypark, head on down to the 1st floor Event Plaza to enjoy the Spectra Light and Water Show which happens every 8:00pm and 9:00pm daily, with an additional 10:00pm show on Fridays and Saturdays.
2. 24 Hour Stopover
If you have a little more time to spend in this magnificent city, then we have an exciting 24 hours of city highlights planned for you.
Begin your day with a 360 view of Singapore thanks to the Singapore Cable Car Sky. This is probably one of the most unique experiences in Singapore and one you can’t miss out on. Watch as the picturesque landscape unfolds aboard the Faber Peak Singapore Cable Car. See magnificent views of the Southern precinct, drop by Sentosa Island and pay a visit to Mount Faber, one of the city's oldest hilltop parks.
Next on the list is Universal Studios Singapore. This isn’t just an experience for the kids, but we guarantee the adults will have just as much fun as you go beyond the screen and Ride The Movies™. The park is perfect for the thrill-seeker or movie buff as you experience cutting-edge rides, shows, and attractions based on your favorite blockbuster films and television series including Transformers and Jurassic Park.
Once you’ve had your blood pumping on the rides, it’s now time to relax a little with the SEA Aquarium. Explore what lies beneath, and see more than 100,000 marine animals of over 800 species, across 49 different habitats. From hammerhead sharks to bottlenose dolphins, and colourful fish, the whole family will be in awe as you make your way through South-East Asia's largest aquarium.
If the rides at Universal Studios weren’t enough of an adventure for you, then take a leap of courage later in the afternoon with the Mega Adventure Zip Line. This is a 75 meter high and 450 meter long zip line flies you over breathtaking views of Imbiah Hill's lush jungle canopy and calming white sands. This will be an adrenaline rush the whole family can enjoy.
End your day with an evening stroll through the famous Gardens by the Bay. The garden’s are particularly magical at night, with a mesmerising light and music show waiting for you.
3. 48 Hour Stopover
We may be a little bias, but two days is truly the perfect amount to sample what Singapore has to offer for the family. Immerse yourself in the culture and fun as you adventure through the top sites of this lively city.
We recommend starting day one off with the Singapore Cable Car to Sentosa Island. This will not only give you a panoramic view of Singapore, but it is also a great way to see all the biggest attractions from a bird's eye view. Once you’re at Sentosa Island, you can check out the Sentosa Cable Car Museum, where the world's largest Lego cable car cabin awaits to be discovered.
Once you’ve finished exploring Sentosa Island, keep flying high with the Mega Adventure Zip Line. Take a leap of faith as a family and enjoy this quick, yet thrilling experience Singapore has to offer. If your family likes a good competition, why not enjoy the adrenaline rush together as you race side by side at a speed of 60kmph!
Continue the thrills as you head on over to Universal Studios Singapore - a must visit for everyone when you’re in Singapore. One visit to Universal will leave a mark on you forever; with it’s phenomenal rides and spectacular shows. This place is perfect for both young and old.
Day two we recommend starting the morning a little slower and exploring the magnificent SEA Aquarium. This Aquarium will be like no other you’ve ever experienced. It’s not only full of incredible wildlife, but it also offers hands on experiences for the kids, with its Touch Pool.
After your relaxing morning, it’s time now to dive into the water with Singapore’s Adventure Cove Waterpark. From thrilling water slides to a Bluwater Bay wave pool and a platform cliff jump, this water park has something for the thrill junkie and the leisure lover alike. It’s also the perfect way to cool off throughout the hot Singapore days. It’s a day that will prove to be exciting and fun for the whole family.
As dusk falls on your last night in Singapore, take an after-hours, multi-sensory wildlife adventure at the Singapore Zoo Night Safari. The kids will be left amazed, as they come close to over 2,500 nocturnal animals and watch them start their nightly rituals.
