It’s been 30 years since Disney magic was first brought to Europe with the opening of Disneyland Paris (then called Euro Disney) on April 12, 1992. For this milestone anniversary, the resort has come up with a series of surprises—from jaw-dropping new attractions to delectable treats to get the celebrations going!
Here’s a sneak peek into what’s in store for Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary:
1. Thrilling new attractions: the Avengers Campus opens in summer 2022
Prepare to assemble as the Avengers Campus opens at the Walt Disney Studios Park later this summer! This is the second Marvel Cinematic Universe-themed land out of the Disney parks franchise and is set to be larger than its counterpart at Disney California Adventure.
Parkgoers can live out their Avengers superhero dreams at the land’s new attractions: the Avengers Assemble: Flight Force and Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure, along with exciting superhero shows.
Avengers Assemble: Flight Force is a high-speed roller coaster adventure which replaces the now-defunct Rock’n’Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith. What this coaster will actually look like is still a secret but a sneak peak shows that the ride has red and silver-decked coasters. Does that mean riders will be going on a quest alongside Iron Man? We’ll just have to wait and see
Visitors should also look forward to a web-slinging mission with Spiderman at Disneyland Paris’ version of Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. Spider-bots have run amok in this virtual reality experience, and riders are tasked to fling their web-shooters and eliminate as many of these creepy crawlers as they can.
2. Exciting new shows: “Dream...and Shine Brighter” and “Disney D-Light”
Dance along and watch in wonder as Mickey Mouse and friends perform the new daytime show “Dream…and Shine Brighter” dressed in dazzling new costumes, made using more than 2,000 rhinestones, 700 meters of printed fabrics, and 190+ jewels. More than 200 costumes were created for the festivities, and the planning was a team effort. Even the dancers pitched in with their ideas on hair and makeup to make sure everything was on point. The festival floats for the show are a spectacle themselves—their curved structures, which behave like stained glass pieces, are inspired by great artists like Daniel Buren and Olafur Eliasson and architect Frank Gehry.
And as evening sets in, prepare to be astounded by a new Disney Illuminations pre-show called “Disney D-Light”, a spectacular light show with video projections set against the backdrop of the Sleeping Beauty castle. Drone light choreography takes this performance to the next level; a first of its kind for any of the Disney parks’ daily outdoor shows.
Fun fact: An entirely new soundtrack was composed and arranged for Disneyland Paris’ 30th Anniversary celebrations, which took six months to produce. This includes 20 songs from Disney and Pixar which revolve around the themes “laugh harder,” “open your heart,” and “believe in your dreams.”
3. Fantastic new displays: The Gardens of Wonder
Be sure to take a stroll along Central Plaza for a one-of-a-kind installation called The Gardens of Wonder! The new display features 30 Disney and Pixar-motif kinetic sculptures scattered through ten themed gardens.
Among the more notable themes is the “Garden of Asia”, wherein you will find Baymax from “Big Hero 6”, Sisu from “Raya and the Last Dragon”, and Mushu from “Mulan”, as well as an “Underwater Theme”, which features The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo. Each of the pieces hail from a wide array of influences—from windmills to the works of Salvador Dali.
Klook tip: When you can, try to admire the pieces once during the day and once at night. The lighting makes for entirely different experiences!
4. Exclusive snacks: Special 30th-anniversary treats
It ain’t a party without cake—and, boy, did they make sure they had plenty of it for Disneyland Paris’ 30th birthday! The resort made sure to flex its fine pastry-making skills with equally adorable and delicious new desserts, such as purple cheesecake pops and Mickey Mouse-painted macarons, or its official anniversary cake called “Le Bouquet final”: a white chocolate and strawberry cake served under a dome. The Mickey-shaped cakes and pastries make for lovely Instagram photos as well!
Those craving for something savoury can look forward to Mickey-shaped veggie or ham sandwiches, or salted mashed potato waffles, among other specialities in the snack booths and resort restaurants.
Tip: If you’d like to hit the restaurants to experience their 30th-anniversary special menus, make sure to download the Disney mobile app to be able to make advanced reservations.
5. Limited-edition items: 30th-anniversary merchandise
Since the 30th anniversary is a once-in-a-lifetime event, don’t be a party pooper and leave the park without getting any limited edition merch. The good news is that there are over 350 anniversary-themed merchandise to choose from. Each souvenir is a wonderful piece of magic to take home with you from Mickey plushies and keychains to special edition embroidered towels!
Klook tip: Head over to New Century Notions Flora's Unique Boutique, Emporium and World of Disney to see the whole range of 30th-anniversary paraphernalia.
