What to expect
Combining surfing and paddling, SUP (Stand Up Paddle) boarding can be enjoyed anywhere there's water. It doesn't require advanced surfing balance skills, nor is swimming a necessity. It's easy to learn and a brand new way to explore Lanyu's blue waters. In addition to regular sessions, sunrise sessions at Dongqing Bay, the most beautiful location, are available from June to October, offering an unforgettable water journey.
Good to know
Q: What should I wear for the SUP stand-up paddleboarding experience? During the activity, you will definitely get wet. Please wear a swimsuit or a lightweight T-shirt and clothing that you don’t mind getting wet.
Q: What time and where should I meet? The day before the activity, you will be notified of the meeting harbor via phone, LINE message, or SMS. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the activity time.
The activity location will be Longdao Port, Dongqing Bay, or Longmen Port, depending on the coach's assessment of the wave conditions.
Q: Can I do SUP if I can’t swim? Yes, you can! All our tours are suitable for beginners and we provide SUP leashes, buoyancy vests (life jackets), and SUP boards are also common rescue tools. Even if you can’t swim, you can still enjoy this water activity.
Q: Do you offer photography services? Can you take aerial photos for me? Throughout the activity, the coach will use a mobile phone or camera to take photos. All photos are provided free of charge, and you cannot specify the number of photos or shooting angles, but the coach will do their best to take beautiful photos for everyone! Please proactively ask the coach for photos at the end of the activity!
Q: What if it rains or there’s a typhoon on the day of the activity? If the rain is light, the activity will proceed as usual. If the wind and waves are strong, the coach will assess and notify you whether the activity will take place. In case of force majeure factors such as typhoons, you will be notified before the activity.
Q: Will I definitely see the sunrise or sunset during the sunrise or sunset session? In summer, there is about an 80% chance of seeing the sunrise or sunset, but it still depends on the weather conditions on the day. The mountains and ocean of Orchid Island are also very beautiful! If it rains during the sunrise session, the coach will assess and notify you in advance whether the activity will take place. Please make sure your phone is accessible.
Q: Can I not wear a buoyancy vest (life jacket)? For safety reasons, we recommend that all participants wear a buoyancy vest during the activity. When taking photos, you can assess your own ability and secure the leash, and with the coach’s consent, temporarily remove the buoyancy vest, but you must bear the risk if you fall into the water.
