What to expect
Once dressed in snorkeling gear at Sorrento Pier, the tour begins with a safety and snorkel skills briefing before boarding the fast, open-style RIB boat. The first snorkel location is just 10 minutes away in a shallow, easy-shore reef location where guests become comfortable snorkeling in their environment and the equipment while looking for the unique Weedy Seadragon, an amazing seahorse-like creature with only two known habitats in Victoria, one of which was our first snorkel spot. Next, we transit to Popes Eye Marine Park via the Ticonderoga Dolphin Sanctuary. During transit, we look for the local bottlenose dolphins, a protected species, and in the right way we may approach closer to these magnificent creatures, to create one of life’s incredible memories as they appear. At Popes Eye Marine Park snorkel site, guests admire the incredible underwater habitat of the rocky kelp-covered reef and the abundant colorful fish species as an excellent example of the Great Southern Reef marine life, many not found elsewhere on Earth. Our third snorkel site is at the nearby Australian Fur Seal haul-out platform, where the most incredible life experience of swimming amongst up to 80 seals in front of your very eyes in shallow waters. Finally, we make our way back to the pier, keeping an eye out for bottlenose dolphins if they haven’t already appeared during the tour.
